Why Ultraviolette Tesseract Could Be A Segment Disruptor: Opinion

Ultraviolette enters the electric scooter market with the Tesseract, a maxi-style EV featuring aggressive pricing, radar-based safety and multiple battery options with up to 261 km range. It aims to challenge established players like Ola, Ather and Bajaj with its advanced features and unique design.

India's Electric two wheeler segment is witnessing a rapid growth, with electric scooters holding the rein for the EV adoption in India and companies like Ola Electric, Bajaj Chetak and Ather leading from the front. However, Ultraviolette, which has so far focused on the electric sportbike segment, has introduced something that no one expected from them the 'Tesseract.'
The Ultraviolette Tesseract is a maxi-style electric scooter that has the potential to make a significant impact on the market. With its competitive pricing, distinctive design, advanced features and notable riding range, it aims to challenge the existing players in the segment.

Aggressive Pricing Strategy

Ultraviolette's pricing strategy for the Tesseract is notably aggressive. An introductory price of Rs 1.2 lakhs for the first 10,000 customers is a bold move that undercuts many competitors. Even after this initial offer, the price will settle at Rs 1.45 lakhs, which remains competitive given the scooter's feature set. To put this into perspective, the OLA S1 Pro+ Gen3 with a 5.3 kWh battery is priced at Rs 1,69,999 and the Ather 450x with a 3.7 kWh battery comes in at Rs 1,56,999. Both are higher than the Tesseract's pricing, making Ultraviolette's offering particularly attractive.

Design: A Bold Statement

The Tesseract's design is a departure from conventional scooters, embracing a maxi-scooter aesthetic with a massive front apron and a large seat. Its sharp, angular lines are reminiscent of Ultraviolette's design DNA, similar to the F77. The split headlight design and color options like Desert Sand, Stealth Black, Solar White and Sonic Pink add to its distinctive presence on the road.
None of the electric scooter available in the Indian market comes closer to the UV Tesseract in terms of design be it, Ather 450 series, Ola S1 series or Simple One.

Pioneering Safety Features

In terms of safety, the UV Tesseract features a segment-first integrated radar and dashcam, paired with Omnisense mirrors. This system provides advanced safety technologies, including Blindspot Detection, Lane Change Assist, Overtaking Assist and real-time Collision Alerts.
An VIOLETTE A.I. package is also available that includes Advanced Ride Analytics, Movement, Fall and Towing Alerts, Remote Lockdown, Crash Alert, Daily Ride Stats and an Anti-Collision Warning System.
While many electric scooters in India come with basic safety features, the Tesseract takes it a step further by incorporating radar and even a dashcam. Who would have thought that such technology would be available on a scooter at such a competitive price? Even car manufacturers struggle to offer radar-based safety features in vehicles priced under Rs 8-10 lakh, yet Ultraviolette has managed to bring this innovation to a two-wheeler.

Unmatched Range

The company claims that the Tesseract offers an IDC range of 261 km with its 6 kWh battery pack. It is also available with a 5 kWh battery pack delivering an IDC range of 220 km and a 3.5 kWh option with an IDC range of 162 km.
When compared to other electric scooters in the market, the Ola S1 Pro+ (top variant) with a 5.3 kWh battery boasts a claimed range of 320 km, while the Ather 450X (top variant) with a 3.7 kWh battery offers an IDC range of 161 km.
On paper, the Ola S1 Pro+ claims a longer range. What makes the Tesseract interesting is its battery flexibility; buyers can choose from different battery capacities based on their needs and budget. The fact that even its mid-spec variant offers a range close to some of the top-end models in the segment says a lot about its efficiency.
