General Motors' Cadillac To Enter Formula 1 As 11th Team In 2026: Details

Formula 1 has announced that it has reached an agreement with US automaker General Motors (GM) to bring its sub-brand Cadillac as the 11th team to the Formula 1 grid in 2026. GM will also be launching an F1 power unit by the end of this decade, which will put the Cadillac Formula 1 Team on the path to being a 'full works' team by building its own F1 vehicles and power units.
"Over the course of this year, they have achieved operational milestones and made clear their commitment to brand the eleventh team GM/Cadillac, and that GM will enter as an engine supplier at a later time. Formula 1 is therefore pleased to move forward with this application process and will provide further updates in due course," said Formula 1 in a statement.
Cadillac would be the first new team to join F1 since 2016. Mario Andretti, the last American to have won a Formula 1 Championship, will serve as a director on the team’s board. Since GM's bid to join F1 was announced first in January 2023, the carmaker says that it assembled an experienced team to work on aerodynamics, chassis and component development, software, and vehicle dynamics simulation for the Cadillac F1 team.
The battle for the ongoing 2024 F1 Drivers' Championship ended last weekend with Red Bull's Max Verstappen clinching his fourth straight Championship. Meanwhile the Constructors' Championship is still wide open, with McLaren leading the race with 608 points, Ferrari on second with584 points and Red Bull on third with 555 points, with only two race weekends to go.
