2026 Mahindra Thar OG Launched: Top 5 Highlights

Mahindra has given its popular three-door off-roader a major update with the launch of the Thar OG. Priced from Rs 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom), the updated SUV gets more than just cosmetic changes. It now uses a shorter version of the Thar Roxx’s platform and gets new suspension, safety, technology and off-road hardware. Here are the top five highlights of the new Mahindra Thar OG.

Key Highlights:

One of the biggest changes on the Thar OG is underneath the skin. The SUV is now based on the shorter version of the Thar Roxx’s M-Glyde platform. Mahindra says the new platform is stiffer and more capable than the outgoing architecture. The Thar OG also gets a Pentalink rear suspension with DaVinci dampers, similar to the setup introduced on the XUV 7XO. This is expected to improve the SUV’s ride and handling characteristics.

The overall three-door silhouette of the Thar remains familiar, but Mahindra has added several modern touches. The SUV now gets new LED headlamps, DRLs and LED indicators, along with a redesigned five-slot grille and a simpler front bumper. The LED fog lamps are now positioned on the front fenders. At the side, the design remains largely unchanged, but the SUV gets larger 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.

At the rear, the Thar OG features new LED tail lamps and a redesigned bumper, while the side-hinged split tailgate continues to be offered. The SUV is available in eight colour options, including Artemis Silver, Battleship Grey, Deepforest, Everest White, Galaxy Grey, Jeans Blue, Stealth Black and Tango Red.

The cabin retains the familiar layout of the outgoing Thar but gets a new brown and black colour theme. Mahindra has also added features such as an engine push-button start and a wireless charger. The feature list includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker audio system, cruise control, a height-adjustable driver's seat and steering-mounted controls.

Safety has also received an upgrade on the Thar OG. The SUV now gets six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, a rear camera and four-wheel disc brakes. Other safety and electronic systems include roll-over mitigation, hill-hold control, vehicle dynamics control and electronic power steering.

5. Three Engines and New Off-Road Hardware

The Thar OG continues with three engine options: a 1.5-litre diesel, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel. The updated SUV also gets three drive modes - Sand, Snow and Mud. Off-road capability has been further enhanced with an electronic differential lock and brake-lock differential.

Mahindra has also introduced a new ZXT variant, which sits at the top of the Thar OG range. With the combination of a revised platform, new hardware and added features, the Thar OG moves beyond being a simple cosmetic facelift of the existing Thar.
