2027 BMW 3 Series Unveiled with 443bhp: Will it Come to India?

The new 3 Series will be offered in the US in three variants - 330, 330 xDrive and M350 xDrive. Unlike the electric i3, the petrol-powered 3 Series will no longer use the “i” badge.

The standard BMW 330 gets a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 255 hp and 399Nm of torque. It will be available with either rear-wheel drive or BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system, paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The M350 xDrive is the more performance-focused version. It gets a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six engine that produces 437 hp and 580Nm of torque. BMW claims a 0-60 mph (0-96 kmph) time of just 3.9 seconds, while the 330 takes 5.9 seconds.

Both versions have an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (249 kmph).

The biggest change comes in the design department. The 2027 3 Series adopts BMW’s Neue Klasse styling, similar to the recently revealed i3 electric sedan. The car gets a new front-end design with a traditional grille, while the headlights feature an optional yellow M lighting element. It also gets 19-inch wheels as standard, with 20-inch wheels available as an option. Flush door handles give the sedan a cleaner side profile.

At the rear, the 3 Series gets a taillight design similar to other Neue Klasse models. The M350 xDrive gets additional styling changes, including black exterior elements, a rear spoiler, quad exhausts, M-specific bumpers and side skirts, along with blue M Sport brakes.

The cabin has also received a major redesign. BMW’s latest Panoramic iDrive system stretches across the dashboard near the base of the windscreen and displays key driving information. It also integrates an AI assistant powered by Amazon Alexa. The new 3 Series gets a 17.9-inch central display, while a passenger-side screen is not available. The My Modes feature allows occupants to customise lighting and display settings.

The infotainment system will also offer a TiVo-powered video app, allowing occupants to stream content when the car is parked. The steering wheel gets haptic touch controls, while the digital instrument cluster is integrated with BMW’s latest display setup. M Performance versions also get a dedicated steering wheel with controls for M Mode and Boost functions. A head-up display will be available as an option.

One of the most interesting additions is BMW’s new “Drift Moment” feature. Available on the M350 xDrive, the system can temporarily cut power to the front wheels to enable controlled drifting. BMW says the M Performance sedan will be the first model to receive this technology. However, it will not be available at launch and is expected to be introduced through a software update in 2027. The 2027 BMW 3 Series will go on sale in the US in early 2027.
