2027 Lexus NX Makes Global Debut with Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain
Lexus , the luxury car division of the Japanese automaker Toyota has unveiled the 2027
NX with a major update to its hybrid technology, sharper styling and a more premium cabin. The 2027
Lexus NX comes with the upgraded NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid, which gets a larger battery, more than 60 miles of claimed electric range and DC fast-charging capability.
Lexus has unveiled the updated 2027 model year NX as part of its global electrification strategy. The refreshed luxury SUV will now be offered exclusively with electrified powertrains, with buyers getting a choice between a self-charging hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. The updated model is expected to reach global markets by the end of 2026, while the UK and European markets will get it from spring 2027.
For Lexus, the NX is an important model globally. The second-generation SUV was also the first Lexus to introduce plug-in hybrid technology, and the 2027 update takes the NX 450h+ a step further with more battery capacity, revised hybrid hardware and faster charging.
2027 Lexus NX: Powertrain
The NX 450h+ gets the most significant mechanical changes. Lexus has equipped it with a newly developed lithium-ion battery that offers a claimed 30 percent more capacity and 8 percent higher output than before. The updated PHEV uses a new e-Axle that integrates the transaxle, electric motor and power-control unit into a more compact package.
The Euro spec NX 450h+ is expected to deliver more than 60 miles (over 96 km) of electric driving range. The US version, meanwhile, is expected to offer more than 40 miles of EV range under EPA testing.
The NX 350h and NX 450h+ use a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine working in tandem with the hybrid system. The NX 350h produces 241bhp, while the NX 450h+ develops 322bhp. The Euro spec differs slightly, with Lexus quoting 307bhp for the NX 450h+ and a 0-62mph acceleration time of 6.1 seconds.
The 2027 NX gets a substantial visual refresh, although the overall silhouette of the SUV remains familiar. At the front, Lexus has introduced a frameless spindle grille that is more closely integrated into the bodywork. The headlamps have also been redesigned, with the daytime-running lights and turn indicators forming a new dual-line lighting signature. The rear gets a new Double L Signature lighting treatment, with illuminated L-shaped elements at either side connected visually by the illuminated Lexus logo.
Lexus is also introducing new exterior colours, including Shaded Ivy and Incognito, the latter reserved for F Sport variants. The F Sport version further gets black exterior detailing, redesigned 20-inch wheels and red brake callipers.
2027 Lexus NX: Cabin & Features
The cabin of the 2027 model year NX has received an equally comprehensive update. The dashboard now follows a cleaner, more horizontal layout, with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a standard 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, connected car features, navigation, multimedia with split-screen viewing, Mark Levinson premium audio system, Digital Key and Sensory Concierge. The Sensory Concierge is available on the higher trims and this system coordinates cabin lighting, sound, climate control and fragrance to create different interior environments depending on the occupants' preferences and journey.
Lexus has also upgraded the NX's driver-assistance technology with Lexus Safety System+ 4.0. Depending on the market and variant, this system now offers Lane Change Assist, Proactive Driving Assist, Road Sign Assist, Automatic High Beams, Rear Pedestrian Detection and Front Cross-Traffic Alert.
2027 Lexus NX: Will it Come to India?
Lexus has not yet confirmed an India launch for the updated NX. The company currently sells the NX in India, but there is no official confirmation regarding the arrival of the facelifted model or, more importantly, the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid. If Lexus brings the updated NX to India, the new PHEV could give the SUV a stronger electrified proposition in the luxury SUV segment.
