The EL Platform

Ather Energy revealed its new EL platform at Community Day 2025, presenting it as the foundation for a new generation of scooters. Developed using over 26 lakh kilometres of field data, the platform uses a unibody steel chassis aimed at simplifying production and extending service intervals. According to Ather, scooters built on this base will require servicing every 10,000 km, with periodic maintenance expected to take less time due to simplified parts and reduced brake wear.
The design also shifts to a swingarm-mounted motor instead of a belt drive. Other hardware elements include a front disc brake, monoshock suspension and a centre stand. Manufacturing of EL-based scooters will take place at Ather’s new Factory 3.0 in Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar).

The EL01 Concept

The EL01 was shown as the first scooter concept on this platform, though its exact specifications were not disclosed. Ather confirmed that the first production scooter on the EL platform will be introduced around the festive season of 2026. The new range will exist alongside the current 450 and Rizta models rather than replacing them.

The company also displayed three possible directions for the EL platform:
  • Maxi-scooter with 14-inch wheels and a larger 5kWh battery for extended range.
  • Sport-focused scooter with a compact 2kWh battery, 12-inch wheels and sharper design.
  • Family-oriented scooter with a longer wheelbase, wider seat, and suspension tuned for comfort, with potential support for rider assistance features.

Safety and Hardware Additions

The EL platform introduces Ather’s Advanced Electronic Braking System (AEBS), intended to shorten braking distances and reduce rear-wheel lockups. While different from ABS, it can work alongside ABS in future models.
Another change is the new Charge Drive Controller, which combines the onboard charger with the motor controller. This design removes the need for a separate portable charger and allows more storage space in the scooter.

What Comes Next

The Ather EL01 concept marks the beginning of a wider scooter family to be built on the EL platform. With production planned at the Aurangabad factory, Ather is preparing to expand its line-up with scooters covering multiple segments such as commuter, sporty and family-oriented models. The first model based on this platform is expected to be launched in 2026.
