The Audi A2 nameplate makes a comeback after over 20 years, this time as the all-electric A2 E-Tron. This compact model boasts impressive features, including a range of up to 646 km and four power options.

Audi A2 E-Tron Revealed: Gets Four Power Options, Up to 322bhp

After disappearing from Audi’s line-up for more than two decades, the A2 nameplate is making a comeback. However, this time, the compact model returns with a completely different identity. The new Audi A2 E-Tron is an all-electric car designed to combine compact dimensions with a spacious cabin and strong aerodynamic efficiency.
Key Highlights:
  • Audi A2 returns after more than 20 years as an all-electric model
  • A2 E-Tron offers up to 401 miles (646 km) of claimed WLTP range
  • Four rear-wheel-drive power options, ranging from 168 bhp to 322 bhp
  • Prices start at €38,350 (around Rs 38 lakh) in Germany
The A2 E-Tron is scheduled to arrive in Europe towards the end of 2026. Audi says the electric model will offer up to 646 km of WLTP range, while prices in Germany will start at €38,350 (around Rs 38 lakh, before taxes and duties).

Audi A2 E-Tron: Design and Aerodynamics

Audi A2 E-Tron: Design and Aerodynamics

The new A2 E-Tron has been designed around efficiency, but Audi has avoided giving it an overly futuristic or unconventional appearance. The electric car measures 4,321 mm in length, 1,791 mm in width and 1,549 mm in height, with a 2,771 mm wheelbase.
Short overhangs and a gently sloping roofline give the A2 E-Tron its distinctive proportions. At the front, Audi has used a large black-panel element that houses the sensors and main lighting units. Slim daytime running lights sit above it, while the rear gets horizontal LED tail-lights.
Even the door handles have been designed with aerodynamics in mind. They use electric and haptic controls and have a wing-like design that sits flush with the body.
The A2 E-Tron has a claimed drag coefficient of 0.24, making it Audi's most aerodynamic compact model. The company has used a nearly enclosed underbody, active air intakes, aerodynamic wheel arches and specially designed alloy wheels to reduce air resistance.
The electric hatchback will be offered with 18-inch to 20-inch wheels and 225 mm or 235 mm-wide tyres.

Audi A2 E-Tron: Interior and Features

Audi A2 E-Tron: Interior and Features

Despite its compact exterior, Audi says the A2 E-Tron has been designed to offer the cabin space of a larger car.
The dashboard and door panels feature Audi's Softwrap design, which uses soft, fabric-covered surfaces to create a more premium look and feel. The driver gets an 11.9-inch Virtual Cockpit Plus digital instrument cluster, while a 12.8-inch curved MMI touchscreen handles infotainment functions. The system comes with an AI-powered assistant, E-Tron route planner and connected-car features.
Audi has also moved the gear selector to the steering column, freeing up additional space around the centre console.
The electric car also gets a Qi 2.2-compatible wireless charging pad capable of charging two smartphones simultaneously at up to 25W. Active cooling is included to help maintain charging performance.
Another new feature is Audi's Fidlock attachment system, which uses magnets and mechanical locking to let occupants attach accessories such as cupholders and bags.

Audi A2 E-Tron: Range and Performance

The Audi A2 E-Tron will be offered with three battery options: 52 kWh, 61 kWh and 84 kWh. The smaller battery packs use LFP chemistry, while the largest 84 kWh battery uses NMC cells.
The claimed WLTP range depends on the powertrain and battery configuration:
  • 168 bhp + 52 kWh: Up to 423 km
  • 187 bhp + 61 kWh: Up to 515 km
  • 228 bhp + 84 kWh: Up to 646 km
  • 322 bhp + 84 kWh: Up to 629 km
All versions use permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors with power sent to the rear wheels. Audi will offer four power outputs: 168 bhp, 187 bhp, 228 bhp and 322 bhp.
The most powerful version can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 5.7 seconds and has a top speed of 200 kmph. The other versions have a top speed of 159 kmph, with 0-100 kmph acceleration times of 8.8 seconds, 7.9 seconds and 7.0 seconds, respectively.
The more powerful versions of the A2 E-Tron support DC fast charging at up to 183 kW. Audi claims a 10-80 percent charging session can take between 24 and 29 minutes, depending on the battery and powertrain configuration.
The electric hatchback also supports bidirectional charging. Through Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), it can supply electricity to compatible external devices. In markets supporting Vehicle-to-Home (V2H), the car can also send power back to a home, allowing it to function as a mobile energy storage unit.

Audi A2 E-Tron: Boot Space and Practicality

The A2 E-Tron offers 396 litres of boot space, which increases to 1,337 litres when the rear seats are folded. The 228 bhp and 322 bhp versions also get a small 14-litre front trunk. Audi has added several storage spaces inside the cabin, including compartments capable of holding bottles of up to around 1.5 litres.
An optional panoramic glass roof adds around 1.6 square metres of glass area to the cabin.

Audi A2 E-Tron: Price and Launch

In Germany, prices for the Audi A2 E-Tron start at €38,350 for the 168 bhp version with the 52 kWh battery. Prices for the more powerful and better-equipped versions will cross the €50,000 mark. Audi is expected to announce the complete variant-wise pricing in the coming weeks. The A2 E-Tron is scheduled to reach European markets towards the end of 2026, while an India launch has not been announced.
