Avoid Traffic Challans: GRAP 4 Reimplemented In Delhi
The Centre reimplemented GRAP Stage 4 in Delhi NCR on Wednesday as air quality in the national capital deteriorated. The Commission of Air Quality Management (CAQM) subcommittee invoked actions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage 3 and Stage 4 owing to poor air quality of Delhi with immediate effect with Stage 1 and Stage 2 actions already in effect.
Moreover, the CAQM revoked GRAP Stage 3 restrictions on January 12 post rainfall in the Delhi NCR region. The reimplementation of GRAP 4 restrictions in the national capital means the return of curbs on BS-3 Petrol vehicles and BS-4 Diesel vehicles. CNG cars and electric vehicles would be exempted from the curbs implemented under GRAP Stage 4 restrictions. Furthermore, individuals with disabilities are also exempt from the restrictions.
Violators would have to pay hefty fines of Rs 20,000 with Delhi traffic police expected to enforce a crackdown on vehicles lacking a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC), imposing Rs 10,000 fines for violators.
“All actions of the GRAP schedule shall be implemented, monitored and reviewed by all the agencies concerned in the entire NCR to ensure that the AQI levels do not slip further. All implementing agencies shall keep strict vigil and intensify measures of the GRAP schedule. Citizens are requested to strictly adhere to the citizen charter under GRAP,” said the statement.
The Supreme Court of India directed the CAQM as well as the Government of Delhi that stage 3 of GRAP should be implemented if the air quality index exceeds 350 and stage 4 measures of GRAP to be reintroduced if the air quality index crosses the 400-mark.
