Hyundai Bayon SUV Bookings Open Ahead of India Launch

The Indian division of the South Korean automaker Hyundai has today kicked open bookings for the upcoming Bayon SUV in the country for an amount of Rs 11,000. Sharing this update the automaker revealed that the upcoming SUV will get a generative AI voice assistant, petrol engine, Manual and IVT options and is based on the Global K Enhanced Platform. Hyundai India also revealed that the upcoming Bayon SUV measures 4.2 metre in length, making it smaller than the Creta but longer than the Venue. The Hyundai Bayon is scheduled to arrive in India during the festive season. The company is yet to announce its launch date, price and delivery timeline.

One of the key highlights of the Hyundai Bayon is its in-built generative AI voice assistant. Hyundai says the system is designed to enable more natural interaction between the driver and the vehicle.

The company has structured the Bayon's positioning around five pillars - Intelligence On, Safety On, Comfort On, Performance On and Style On. The AI-based voice assistant forms the core of the Intelligence On proposition.

The teaser images and sketches shared by Hyundai indicate that Bayon gets a new design with a focus on a wide SUV stance. The exterior features a sculpted bonnet, futuristic front fascia and H-Edge LED DRLs.

The Bayon also sports geometric wheel arches, wrap-around door cladding and bridge-type roof rails. Hyundai has stated that the design has been developed to give the Bayon a distinctive appearance while maintaining its SUV proportions. The Bayon measures 4.2 metres in length. Hyundai says the cabin has been designed around efficient space utilisation, with a focus on legroom, headroom and shoulder room for occupants.

The upcoming Bayon will be based on Hyundai's Global K Enhanced Platform. Hyundai also claims that this platform has been engineered for 5-star Indian safety standards, with an emphasis on occupant protection, structural rigidity and safety engineering. Hyundai has not yet revealed the complete safety equipment list of the India-spec Bayon and the 5-star safety claim by Hyundai is without putting it through Bharat NCAP crash tests.

Hyundai has revealed that the Bayon will be offered with a petrol powertrain. Transmission options will include a Manual Transmission (MT) and Hyundai's Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). The automaker hasn’t shared anything yet on diesel or hybrid powertrain options for the Bayon. More details about the engine specifications and variant-wise powertrain options are expected to be announced closer to the launch.

Hyundai has not announced the price of the Bayon yet but the SUV is expected to be introduced in the Indian market around the festive season. The Bayon is expected to be slotted between the Creta and Venue in the company’s SUV lineup in India. The Bayon is likely to be launched with a starting ex-showroom price tag of Rs 8.99 lakh.
