Hyundai Crater Off-Road Concept SUV Teased Ahead of Debut at LA Auto Show 2025
Hyundai has unveiled design sketches for the Crater Concept, an off-road SUV set to debut at the 2025 Los Angeles Auto Show. This model aligns with Hyundai's plan to introduce 26 new vehicles in India by FY2030, including a confirmed off-road SUV. The Crater features a rugged design with a boxy silhouette, off-road tires, and high ground clearance, suggesting a potential electric powertrain. This concept may influence future Hyundai models, aiming for a more adventurous identity in the SUV segment.

Design
The sketches show a boxy and upright silhouette with short overhangs, a tall stance and prominent fender flares. The concept rides on off-road-oriented tyres and displays generous ground clearance. Slim lighting elements sit just below the bonnet, while a four-dot pattern occupies the centre section of the closed grille; a cue that suggests an electric powertrain.
A narrow slot above the chunky front bumper appears to house the main headlamps, while the sculpted bonnet and contrast panels near the A-pillar point to functional areas that could support roof-rack access. Four auxiliary lights are placed ahead of the roof-mounted rack.
At the rear, the Crater features wide haunches, a lighting signature that mirrors the front and a large skid plate integrated into the bumper. A small roof-mounted spoiler sits atop the rear glass.

Direction for Future Hyundai SUVs
Hyundai describes the Crater as a “design exploration” aimed at developing a tougher, more off-road-centric identity for the brand. This could influence future XRT-branded models or form the basis of a dedicated trail-ready SUV. The smooth surfaces and sealed front fascia further indicate that electrification is a strong possibility, though Hyundai has not confirmed powertrain details.
While the Crater remains a concept for now, Hyundai has confirmed an all-new off-road SUV for India as part of its 2030 roadmap. Whether this model draws inspiration from the Crater is yet to be seen.
LA Auto Show Premiere
The Crater Concept will be unveiled during AutoMobility LA 2025, with the public display scheduled from November 21-30 at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Hyundai will livestream the global debut press conference, scheduled for November 20th 2025.
