Is the Tesla Model Y Performance Coming to India? Here's What You Should Know

Elon Musk led electric carmaker, Tesla has taken the wraps off the 2026 Model Y Performance. This updated model has debuted as the most powerful version of the Model Y till date. The production for the same will take place at the company’s Berlin Gigafactory, with deliveries for European markets scheduled to begin in September-October 2025. It has been launched in Europe with a starting price tag of about €62,000 (approx. Rs 63 lakh).

Tesla recently launched the Model Y in India, marking its entry into the Indian market. The Model Y Performance is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) system derived from the Model 3 Performance. This setup generates around 460 bhp and it can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.5 seconds. It has an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph.

The 2026 Model Y Performance uses a redesigned battery pack featuring high-density cells. While Tesla has not disclosed the exact capacity, it has a claimed WLTP range of about 580 km. Using fast charging, the battery can replenish up to 243 km of range in 15 minutes.

To differentiate the Model Y Performance from the Long Range variant, Tesla has fitted the Performance model with adaptive dampers and selectable ride modes. Even its suspension is tuned aiming at sharper handling. It gets 21-inch Arachnid 2.0 wheels, red brake callipers and a carbon-fibre rear spoiler further set it apart on the outside. Tesla has also introduced Stability Assist Mode, allowing drivers to customise traction and control levels. The Performance trim is available with Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability in select markets.

On the outside the 2026 Model Y Performance gets a revised front and rear bumper design, diffuser-style elements, and six colour options. On the inside, it gains sport seats with heating, ventilation, additional bolstering, powered rear-seat recline, a new 16-inch centre touchscreen with updated graphics is joined by an 8-inch rear display for passengers. Other updates include carbon-fibre interior trim, improved sound insulation and a 15-speaker audio system.

Tesla currently offers the Model Y in Standard and Long Range versions in India, priced at Rs 59.86 lakh to 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively. This EV was recently introduced in the Indian market after years of anticipation and its new performance model has been introduced globally. Tesla India has not shared anything till now regarding the introduction of the 2026 Model Y Performance in India, however it can be an interesting product which can rival the likes of Kia EV6 GT and other performance oriented electric cars in the domestic market.
