JSW Motors Teases First SUV for India, Likely Based on Jetour T2 i-DM Plug-in Hybrid
JSW Motors announced a partnership with Chery Automobile in January 2026 as part of its plans to enter the Indian passenger vehicle market. Following that development, the company has released a teaser of its first SUV. The teaser also indicates that JSW Motors is inviting dealer partners ahead of the product launch. The SUV will be the company’s first model as an independent automotive brand in India.
Likely Based on Jetour T2 i-DM
Although JSW Motors has not confirmed the donor model, the SUV is widely expected to be based on the Chery Automobile group’s Jetour T2 i-DM.

Chery operates multiple sub-brands globally, including Exeed, iCar, Jaecoo, Luxeed and Jetour. Based on the expected positioning and earlier indications about size and powertrain, Jetour appears to be the most suitable brand for the Indian market entry. The T2 measures about 4.78 metres in length and has a wheelbase of 2,800mm. This places it in the mid-size SUV segment in India.
Platform and Powertrain
The Jetour T2 is built on a monocoque platform and is offered in international markets with both petrol and plug-in hybrid options.
For India, the SUV is expected to be introduced with the i-DM plug-in hybrid system. This setup combines a 1.5L turbo-petrol engine with electric motors and a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission.
In global markets, the petrol engine produces 156bhp and 220Nm of torque. The combined output varies depending on the configuration. The system uses a 26.7kWh battery pack and has a claimed pure electric range of around 130km under the NEDC cycle.
Features and Equipment
International versions of the Jetour T2 i-DM come with a large central touchscreen infotainment system and a fully digital instrument cluster. Other features include powered and ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging and dual-zone climate control.
Higher variants are equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist. Similar equipment levels are expected for the India-spec model.
Manufacturing and Launch Timeline
JSW Motors has not announced any official launch date. Industry estimates suggest that the SUV could debut toward the end of 2026. The company is setting up a manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra. The SUV is expected to be assembled locally with phased localisation to control costs.
