Mahindra BE 6 Formula E vs Standard BE 6: What's Different?

Mahindra has introduced a special motorsport-themed version of its electric SUV, the BE 6, called the BE 6 Formula E Edition. While both models share the same platform, battery and powertrain, the Formula E Edition stands apart through its design, detailing and a few added features inspired by Mahindra’s presence in the Formula E World Championship. The result is an SUV that feels visually and thematically connected to the racing world, even though its mechanical specifications remain unchanged.

The pricing structure clearly positions the Formula E Edition as a more exclusive alternative to the standard model. The standard BE 6 starts at Rs 18.90 lakh and goes up to Rs 27.65 lakh, depending on the variant. The Formula E Edition, meanwhile, is available in two trims: the FE2 at Rs 23.69 lakh and the FE3 at Rs 24.49 lakh. The FE3 variant adds additional features including adaptive suspension, night trail carpet lamps and larger 20-inch alloy wheels.

The most noticeable differences between the two models appear on the outside. The standard BE 6 carries a clean, futuristic EV design suitable for everyday use. In contrast, the Formula E Edition adopts a racing-led identity with a redesigned front bumper, circular projector lamps, gloss-black surrounds and Firestorm Orange accents placed across the bodywork.

The Edition also offers exclusive paint options such as Everest White, Firestorm Orange, Tango Red and Stealth Black. Formula E decals, 12-stripe roof graphics commemorating Mahindra’s 12 years in Formula E, and dark-tinted signature alloy wheels give the Edition a more expressive look. Additional elements, including Firestorm Orange brake callipers and FIA insignia, strengthen its motorsport association. On the FE3 variant, night trail carpet lamps are added for enhanced visual presence at night.

On the inside, the differences are even more pronounced. While both models share the same dual-screen layout and dashboard architecture, the Formula E Edition introduces a specialised motorsport theme. Its Firestorm Orange interior contrasts with black elements and exclusive touches such as FIA × Formula E plaques, FIA-branded seat belts, Formula E logos and orange accents on the steering wheel and centre controls make the cabin feel distinctly performance-oriented.

A racecar-style start/stop flap and translucent door inserts further separate it from the standard model. Mahindra has also added Formula E–inspired startup animations and custom synthesised driving sounds to complete the experience. The rest of the equipment list remains identical to the higher variants of the standard BE 6, including dual 12.3-inch screens, Harman Kardon audio, wireless smartphone connectivity, 5G compatibility, dual wireless charging pads, ADAS Level 2 features and 360-degree cameras.

Although the standard BE 6 already offers a comprehensive feature set, the Formula E Edition brings several enhancements focused on design and ambience. The motorsport-themed graphics, orange-accented cabin, customised sound profiles and Formula E branding are exclusive to this edition. While both versions share most technology features, the FE3 variant adds intelligent adaptive suspension and larger R20 alloy wheels. Beyond this, the Formula E Edition remains largely in line with the premium variants of the standard BE 6 in terms of connectivity, infotainment, comfort features and safety equipment.

Performance remains identical in both versions because Mahindra has not made any hardware changes for the Formula E Edition. Both SUVs use a 79kWh battery pack and a rear-mounted motor producing 282 bhp and 380Nm. The 0 to 100 kmph time remains 6.7 seconds, with a top speed of 202 kmph.

Range figures also stay consistent, with around 500 km of real-world range and an ARAI-certified figure of 682 km on a single charge. Fast charging speeds remain unchanged as well, with the vehicle capable of charging from 20 to 80% in about 20 minutes using a 180kW DC fast charger. Only the adaptive suspension option in the FE3 variant distinguishes the Formula E Edition in terms of ride characteristics.
