Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Flex-Fuel Launched in India at Rs 7.24 Lakh

Days after unveiling the first E85 compatible car, Maruti Suzuki announced the price of the Wagon R flex-fuel hatchback in India. The Wagon R flex-fuel is based on the top-variant of Wagon R, i.e. the ZXi plus. The Wagon R flex-fuel has been developed to run on ethanol-petrol blends ranging from E20 to E85 this move also aligns with the Indian government's vision of moving away from fossil based fuels like petrol to Ethanol for cleaner mobility.

For now, the Wagon R flex-fuel isn't headed to private garages as Maruti Suzuki has introduced this model for commercial buyers only.

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R BioFlex (flex-fuel) commands a premium of Rs 86,000 over the regular ZXi plus MT variant and is priced at Rs 7.24 lakh (ex-showroom). The Wagon R flex-fuel gets the 1.2L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with a 5-speed MT. This powertrain generates 89.65bhp and 113.7 Nm of torque.

To enable operation on higher ethanol blends, Maruti Suzuki has revised several components, including the fuel injectors, fuel pump, fuel lines and engine calibration. The car also gets an ethanol sensor that helps the ECU adapt to varying fuel compositions.

From the outside, there isn't much to separate the BioFlex from the standard Wagon R. A 'BioFlex' badge on the tailgate and subtle 'Flex Fuel' graphics on the sides are the only obvious giveaways.

The cabin of the Wagon R flex-fuel remains familiar as well, carrying over the equipment list from the ZXi+ trim. The car features include a 7-inch SmartPlay Pro touchscreen infotainment system, wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, steering-mounted controls, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, front fog lamps, remote central locking and more.

On the safety front, the Wagon R flex-fuel comes equipped with 6-airbags, ESP, hill hold assist, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and more.
