He in his speech stated that Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is a milestone that India has crossed when it comes to the Make-in-India initiative considering the battery electric vehicle (BEV) will be exported to more than 100 countries. Additionally, he highlighted that the manufacturing of hybrid battery electrodes began today in the Toshiba Denso Suzuki Gujarat plant.
“Battery is one of the most critical parts in the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem. We were dependent on other countries exporting batteries to India. It was imperative that India started its manufacturing. In 2017, we inaugurated the Toshiba Denso Suzuki Gujarat (TDSG) plant wherein three Japanese companies collaborated to manufacture battery cells and electrodes. Not only that but the electrodes will also be manufactured locally helping accelerate the production of electric as well as hybrid vehicles in the country,” Prime Minister Modi shared.
He further shared that while electric vehicles were being considered as a new alternative to petrol and diesel vehicles a few years ago. However, as per PM Modi, EVs were an answer to long-posed questions related to clean mobility.
PM Modi shared an anecdote stating that on his Singapore visit, he announced that India can transform its old vehicles to hybrid or electric vehicles with Maruti Suzuki accepting the challenge and creating a working hybrid ambulance prototype based on the Maruti Suzuki Invicto.
Lastly, he declared that India is focused on semi-conductor manufacturing while being cognizant of the shortage of rare Earth metal magnets. “The semi-conductor industry in India is doing well and has lift off. The plans to focus on the semi-conductor industry include six plants which are expected to be ready soon,” he highlighted. He further revealed that India aims to being a global hub for semi-conductor manufacturing while driving manufacturing forward.
