Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Unveiled with 645bhp V8, Limited to Only 30 Units
Mercedes-AMG has unveiled a new performance coupe that most buyers will never get a chance to own. Called the CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung, the ultra-limited model is the second car from Mercedes Mythos, the brand’s low-volume ultra-luxury sub-brand. Only 30 units will be built, and all of them have already been sold.

Mercedes-AMG CLE 646: Engine and Performance
Power comes from a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged flat-plane-crank V8 engine producing 645bhp and 627 lb-ft of torque. The engine sends power exclusively to the rear wheels through a nine-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission. The car also gets a high-performance exhaust system developed with Akrapovič, designed to deliver a more aggressive engine note.
The rear-wheel-drive coupe can accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.9 seconds. Mercedes-AMG claims it takes 11.4 seconds to reach 124 mph and 36.8 seconds to reach 186 mph. Its top speed is electronically limited to 193 mph (311 km/h).
Mercedes-AMG CLE 646: Exterior Design
The CLE 646 has been heavily modified compared with the standard CLE 53. Its body is 2.4 inches wider, while extensive use of carbon fibre helps reduce weight by around 375 pounds (170 kg). Carbon fibre is used for the fenders, front fascia, side sills, bonnet, roof and rear bumper. The car also gets a more aggressive aerodynamic package that generates more than 550 pounds of downforce at top speed.
Mercedes-AMG CLE 646: Exterior Design
The aero package includes an adjustable front diffuser, fender louvers, additional airflow channels near the headlights and an adjustable rear wing.
Mercedes-AMG has fitted the CLE 646 with a unique steel-sprung coilover suspension and four-way adjustable dampers. The front of the car sits 0.9 inches lower, while the rear is lowered by 0.6 inches. The coupe also gets adjustable traction control designed specifically for its rear-wheel-drive layout.
Braking is handled by 16.5-inch front and 14.2-inch rear carbon-ceramic brakes, with six-piston front and single-piston rear calipers. These are housed behind 20-inch wheels.
Mercedes-AMG CLE 646: Interior Design
Mercedes-AMG has taken a weight-saving approach inside the cabin as well. The rear seats have been removed, along with acoustic insulation and some driver-assistance features. The sound system has also been simplified, while some comfort features have been removed.
Mercedes-AMG CLE 646: Interior Design
The CLE 646 gets lightweight bucket seats, carbon-fibre door panels and a roll bar. Mercedes has even used polycarbonate for the rear side windows and rear window to further reduce weight. Buyers can also opt for a Performance Package with six-point racing harnesses.
Mercedes-AMG CLE 646: Exclusive Paint Finish
The limited-edition coupe gets a distinctive faded paint finish. The colour starts with Mojave Silver Magno at the front and gradually transitions into Obsidian Black Magno from the B-pillar towards the rear. With just 30 examples planned, the Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung is positioned as a highly exclusive performance model rather than a regular production AMG coupe. All 30 units have already been sold.
