The luxury electric SUV space in India is set to get another strong contender. Mercedes-Benz India has officially confirmed that the new-generation GLB EV will be launched in the country. The company has not yet shared an exact launch timeline or technical details for the India-spec model.
Key Highlights
- Mercedes-Benz has confirmed the new-generation GLB EV for the Indian market.
- The electric SUV offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 631 km globally.
- It is based on Mercedes' new MMA platform with 800V fast-charging architecture.
- India launch timeline and pricing are yet to be announced, with an expected price of around Rs 80 lakh.
Speaking during the company's half-yearly sales call, Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, confirmed that the all-electric luxury SUV is headed to Indian shores. Already on sale in international markets such as the UK, the GLB EV is built on the brand's new Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) platform and promises a combination of luxury, technology and long driving range.
Globally, the electric SUV is available in two versions - the GLB 250+ and the GLB 350 4MATIC. The GLB 250+ features a single electric motor producing 272 hp and 335 Nm, while the dual-motor GLB 350 4MATIC delivers 353 hp and 515 Nm.
Both variants are powered by an 85 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Mercedes-Benz claims the single-motor GLB 250+ can deliver a WLTP-certified driving range of up to 631 km on a full charge.
800V Architecture Supports Ultra-Fast Charging
One of the biggest highlights of the new GLB EV is its 800V electrical architecture, which supports DC fast charging of up to 320 kW.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the SUV can add up to 260 km of driving range in just 10 minutes under suitable charging conditions. Overseas markets also get the option of adaptive dampers for improved ride comfort, although it is yet to be confirmed if this feature will be offered in India.
Familiar Design With EV-Specific Touches
The new GLB EV retains much of the styling of its petrol and diesel sibling while adding several EV-specific design elements.
It features an upright SUV stance, connected LED light bars at the front and rear, squared wheel arches, flush-fitting door handles and short overhangs. The biggest visual difference is the sealed front grille, which is decorated with multiple illuminated Mercedes star motifs.
Internationally, the GLB EV is available in both five-seat and seven-seat configurations.
Premium Cabin Packed with Technology
Inside, the global-spec GLB EV comes equipped with Mercedes-Benz's latest MBUX Superscreen setup. It includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a dedicated display for the front passenger.
The infotainment system runs on the latest Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) and supports AI-powered features through integrations with Microsoft, Google and ChatGPT-4o.
Other notable features include:
- Over-the-air (OTA) software updates
- Built-in Google Maps navigation
- Panoramic glass roof with adjustable opacity
- Multi-colour ambient lighting
- Burmester sound system with Dolby Atmos
- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
Mercedes-Benz has not yet confirmed which of these features will be offered on the India-spec version.
Mercedes-Benz GLB EV: Expected Price in India
Mercedes-Benz India is yet to announce official pricing for the GLB EV. In the UK, the electric SUV is priced between GBP 46,100 and GBP 56,800.
The model is expected to arrive in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), with an estimated starting price of around Rs 80 lakh (ex-showroom).
