Nissan Pixo EV Debuts with 259 Km Claimed Range; Will it Come to India?

Japanese automaker Nissan has expanded its electric vehicle portfolio with the unveiling of the all-new Pixo EV in Europe. The Pixo is a new A-segment EV which has been developed specifically for urban driving and will sit alongside the recently launched electric Leaf and Micra in Nissan’s European EV line-up.

The Nissan Pixo measures 3,796mm in length and 1,790mm in width. It has a wheelbase of 2,492mm and a 9.9-metre turning circle, with Nissan positioning the compact dimensions for use in city traffic and tight parking spaces.

The Pixo is powered by a 27.5kWh LFP battery pack and offers a claimed 259km WLTP range. Nissan says the LFP battery is the first of its type to be used in a Nissan model in Europe.

A 50kW DC fast charger is offered as standard across the range. Nissan claims that the battery can be charged from 15 to 80 per cent in approximately 28 minutes. The car also supports 11kW AC charging, with the system offering bidirectional charging capability.

The electric motor develops 60kW of maximum power. The Pixo also gets One-Pedal technology, allowing the driver to accelerate, decelerate and bring the vehicle to a stop using the accelerator pedal.

The Nissan Pixo gets a compact design with cube-inspired proportions, clean surfaces and pixel-inspired lighting. The front-end features a distinctive bumper design, while Nissan has incorporated hidden “23” elements as Easter eggs, referring to the Japanese pronunciation of Nissan. Despite its compact exterior, the Pixo can accommodate up to four adults. The rear seats can slide independently, allowing the cabin to be configured according to passenger and luggage requirements. The Pixo offers 356 litres of boot space with the rear seats in place. With the rear seats folded, luggage capacity increases to 1,221 litres. The car also gets 18 litres of cabin storage.

The Pixo gets a 7-inch driver display and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Google built-in as part of its connected technology package, with Gemini also available from launch. Nissan says Gemini supports navigation, entertainment and communication through voice interaction and will be offered in 16 languages and dialects.

The Pixo also gets the MyNissan app and connected services, allowing owners to manage charging and vehicle functions. Face ID is another feature, with the system recognising the driver and loading personalised settings.

Nissan has equipped the Pixo with a range of driver assistance systems. These include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, Lane Departure Warning and Hands-Free Parking.

Unveiling this EV, Nissan has stated that the Pixo has been designed for Europe but taking the size and range into account it does have a potential market in India. If introduced, the Nissan Pixo can rival the likes of Tata Tiago EV, MG Comet EV, Citroen e-C3X and more entry-level EVs in India.
