Tata Tigor To Be Renamed Aeries, Launch Set For September 25

Tata Motors is preparing to give its long-running compact sedan a major makeover. The Tigor is expected to be renamed the Aeries, with the heavily revised sedan scheduled to make its debut on September 25, 2026. Tata has already started teasing the new model, while the redesigned exterior was recently patented in India.
Key Highlights:
  • New compact sedan expected to debut on September 25, 2026.
  • Gets sharper LED headlamps, revised bumpers and redesigned tail-lamps.
  • Existing 1.2-litre petrol engine and CNG powertrain are expected to continue.
  • Could get a larger battery pack than the current 26kWh unit.
The new Aeries is expected to bring a significantly updated design while retaining the familiar compact sedan shape. Tata could also unveil the petrol and electric versions on the same day, although the company has not confirmed this yet.

Tata Aeries: Exterior Design

Tata's latest teasers provide an early look at the redesigned sedan. The car is shown under a clay covering, with sections of the production bodywork gradually being revealed.
At the front, the Aeries gets slimmer rectangular LED headlamps with a sharp horizontal lighting signature. The bumper has a large black lower intake, along with vertically positioned elements on either side. The teaser also reveals a metallic purple exterior finish.
The rear section gets a redesigned tail-lamp with a more angular LED pattern. Tata has also revised the rear fenders and boot area. Despite these changes, the familiar notchback profile appears to have been retained.

Tata Aeries: Interior Design

The interior is also likely to receive several changes. Tata could equip the Aeries with a larger infotainment touchscreen and an updated digital instrument cluster.
The dashboard design, switchgear, steering wheel, upholstery and centre console are also expected to be revised. Higher variants could get additional connected-car and safety features as part of the update.

Tata Aeries: Powertrain Options

Major mechanical changes are not expected on the petrol version. The current Tigor uses Tata's 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine, producing 86 PS and 113 Nm. It is available with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.
The CNG version is also expected to continue with the Aeries name. Tata could make changes to the variant lineup and equipment, but a completely new engine is unlikely.
The electric version could also receive an update. The current electric Tigor uses a 26kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor producing around 75 PS and 170 Nm. It has a claimed range of up to 315 km and supports both AC and DC charging.
For the Aeries EV, Tata could introduce a larger battery pack to offer a higher driving range and make the sedan more competitive in the electric car market. More details are expected to emerge closer to the September 25 debut.
