Battery Technology and Range
The Roadster X+ is powered by a 9.1 kWh battery pack built using Ola Electric’s in-house developed 4680 Bharat Cell. According to the company, the motorcycle offers a claimed range of up to 500 km on a single charge. The model is aimed at enabling longer-distance use, including inter-city travel, where charging infrastructure is limited compared to urban areas.
Use of 4680 Bharat Cell Platform
With the certification of the Roadster X+, Ola Electric has extended the use of its 4680 Bharat Cell technology across its electric two-wheeler lineup. The battery platform is now used in both scooters and motorcycles. The company stated that the same cell technology will also be used in its upcoming electric motorcycle platform referred to as Ola Shakti.
Testing and Regulatory Compliance
The Roadster X+ underwent vehicle-level testing as required by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) for battery-operated vehicles. The testing process covered parameters such as functional safety, electrical safety, braking performance, electromagnetic compatibility, noise levels, range and gradeability. These tests are part of the mandatory certification process for electric two-wheelers sold in India.
Battery Safety Certification
In addition to vehicle certification, the 9.1 kWh battery pack has also received approval from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) under AIS-156 Amendment 4. The battery pack was tested for safety and durability, including water immersion, thermal events, fire resistance, vibration and mechanical shock.
Ola Electric spokesperson said, “The government certification of the Roadster X+ is a major milestone in Ola Electric’s journey towards building end-to-end EV technology in India. With the Roadster X+ (9.1kWh), we are delivering an unmatched range along with superior performance, safety, and reliability, powered entirely by our own cell and battery technology. This is a defining step towards accelerating EV adoption in India’s motorcycle-dominated 2W market.”
