The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has issued a clarification regarding the availability of demand incentives for L5 category electric three-wheelers under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme.
Under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme, the maximum number of L5 category electric three-wheelers approved for demand incentives is capped at 2,88,809 units. As per official data available on the PM E-DRIVE portal, 2,54,676 L5 electric three-wheelers had been supported as of 4 November 2025. This number increased to 2,85,931 units by 22 December 2025.
Fund and Volume Limit
The Ministry of Heavy Industries has stated that the PM E-DRIVE Scheme is both fund-limited and number-limited. Clause 46 of the scheme notification makes it clear that once the allocated funds or approved vehicle numbers are exhausted, no further claims will be processed. This applies to the L5 electric three-wheeler sub-component as well.
Cut-off for Eligible Registrations
The Ministry of Heavy Industries informed stakeholders that L5 electric three-wheelers registered after 26 December 2025 will not be eligible for demand incentives under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme. The ministry also clarified that if the approved target of 2,88,809 units is reached before this date, the L5 sub-component of the scheme will be closed earlier. Any vehicles registered beyond the target number will not qualify for incentive claims, irrespective of the registration date.
Advisory to OEMs
OEMs have been advised to track the latest registration numbers through the PM E-DRIVE dashboard. Claims linked to vehicles registered beyond the approved limit or after the cut-off date will not be entertained, regardless of pending submissions.
