Porsche 911 Challenge Unveiled Globally; 911 GT3-Based Race Car Gets 522bhp
Porsche has taken the wraps off its latest customer racing car, the 911 Challenge, which is designed to make GT racing more accessible to newcomers. Based heavily on the road-going 911 GT3, the new race car combines familiar controls with motorsport-focused equipment and will become the entry point to Porsche’s customer racing ladder in the UK from 2027.
Key Highlights:
Porsche 911 Challenge revealed as the brand’s new entry-level customer race car- Gets a 4.0-litre flat-six engine producing 515 hp
- Based heavily on the road-going Porsche 911 GT3
- Set to compete in the 2027 Porsche Carwow Sprint Challenge GB
Porsche 911 Challenge: Engine
Powering the 911 Challenge is the same 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine used in the latest 992.2-generation 911 GT3. However, the race car produces slightly more power, with a maximum output of 522bhp at 8,500 rpm.
The engine is paired with a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission. Drivers can change gears manually using the steering-mounted paddles or leave the gearbox to shift automatically.

The car also gets Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+) as standard, along with traction control and electronic stability control. These systems are intended to make the car easier for less experienced drivers to handle on track.
While the 911 Challenge shares much of its design and controls with the road-going GT3, its chassis features components derived from Porsche's 911 Cup racing car. It gets specially tuned motorsport shock absorbers and a three-stage adjustable anti-roll bar.
The car rides on 18-inch wheels with racing slick tyres. Unlike the centre-lock setup used on some Porsche race cars, the 911 Challenge uses a conventional five-hole hub, similar to the 911 GT4 R.
Braking hardware is also sourced from the GT4 R. The car gets 380mm steel brake discs on both the front and rear axles.
At the back, Porsche has added an FIA-certified rain light, while the rear spoiler can be manually adjusted across four different positions.

The cabin retains the steering wheel and dashboard design of the production 911 GT3, helping drivers feel familiar with the car. However, Porsche has removed the sound-deadening materials, carpets and other unnecessary trim to reduce weight.
The interior features a welded-in roll cage, a racing bucket seat and a six-point harness. A 110-litre fuel tank has also been fitted for track use.
Porsche Motorsport says the 911 Challenge will be supplied as a race-ready car, including motorsport safety equipment, data acquisition technology, spare-parts support and technical documentation.
Porsche 911 Challenge to Race From 2027
According to Michael Dreiser, head of sales at Porsche Motorsport, the 911 Challenge brings the driving experience of the road-going 911 GT3 closer to customer racing, allowing new drivers to get comfortable with a familiar vehicle layout.
The new Porsche 911 Challenge will be available to order from September 25, 2026. In the UK, it will be eligible to compete in the 2027 Porsche Carwow Sprint Challenge GB championship, where it will serve as the starting point for Porsche's customer motorsport pyramid.
