Range Rover Sport Electric Debuts with 609 Km Claimed Range; Bookings Open in India

JLR has revealed the new Range Rover Sport Electric in India and opened bookings for its first all-electric Sport model. The electric SUV gets a 118.5kWh battery pack, dual electric motors and an all-wheel-drive system. It has a claimed WLTP range of up to 609km and can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 4.5 seconds. The Range Rover Sport Electric is expected to arrive in India in early 2027 and will be sold as a completely built-up unit (CBU).

Powering the Range Rover Sport Electric is a 118.5kWh lithium-ion battery connected to two electric motors. The setup produces 542bhp and 850Nm of torque, making it the highest torque output offered on a Range Rover Sport.

JLR says torque builds 50 percent quicker than in the larger Range Rover Electric. The SUV can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 4.5 seconds, while the top speed is rated at 200kmph.

The electric SUV has a claimed WLTP range of 609km. It supports DC fast charging at up to 350kW, with a claimed 10-80 percent charging time of around 22 minutes. A 10-minute charging session can add up to 220km of range, according to JLR. The battery is covered by an eight-year or 1.6 lakh km warranty, whichever comes first.

The Range Rover Sport Electric is based on JLR's MLA-Flex architecture and uses an 800-volt electrical system. The company says its body structure is 61 percent stiffer than the combustion-powered Range Rover Sport, while the centre of gravity is 73mm lower.

The SUV gets double-wishbone front suspension and a five-link rear setup. Other hardware includes Dynamic Air Suspension, twin-valve dampers, electronic Active Roll Control and all-wheel steering. It offers up to 263mm of ground clearance. Braking duties are handled by 380mm ventilated discs with four-piston callipers at the front and 355mm discs at the rear.

The overall design of the Range Rover Sport Electric remains close to the combustion-powered version. However, the electric SUV gets several aerodynamic changes. At the front, it features an aero-optimised black grille with horizontal elements, LED headlamps and functional air inlets in the bumper. The SUV also gets redesigned alloy wheels with aerodynamic inserts and EV-specific wheel caps. The side profile features flush-fitting door handles, blacked-out pillars, black ORVMs and a black roof. At the rear, the electric SUV gets wraparound LED tail-lamps and a gloss-black panel with Range Rover lettering. The SUV will be available with alloy wheels of up to 22 inches.

On the inside the cabin layout is similar to the standard Range Rover Sport. It gets a 13.1-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 13.7-inch digital instrument cluster, both featuring EV-specific menus and displays.

The electric SUV continues with a five-seat layout. Features include four-zone climate control, wireless smartphone charging, rear sunblinds and powered, heated and ventilated seats for the front and rear passengers.

The Range Rover Sport Electric will likely be offered in four variants - Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, Autobiography and First Edition.

The First Edition gets a Zadar Grey exterior with Satin Wrap, a black contrast roof and 22-inch alloy wheels. Range Rover will also offer options such as the Black Pack and Satin Wrap, while Autobiography customers can access the brand's Bespoke personalisation service.

The Range Rover Sport Electric is expected to launch in India by March 2027. It is expected to be priced at around Rs 2.5 crore (ex-showroom). The SUV will be imported into India as a CBU model.
