Skoda Octavia RS: Legacy in India
The Skoda Octavia RS is the performance version of the sedan and in India it will be the successor to the iconic Octavia vRS 245. This sedan was previously offered with the vRS moniker in India and its new version will be offered with the RS badge. It was also the first modern performance sedan in India to feature a turbocharged petrol engine in the 21st century.
The Octavia vRS was first introduced in India back in 2004 and it was followed by the introduction of the Laura vRS (global 2nd-gen Octavia vRS renamed for the Indian market) in 2011.
The next major update followed with the introduction of the Octavia vRS 230 in 2017, which was based on the facelifted second-gen Octy in India (globally third-gen). This version was introduced with a 2.0L four-pot turbo petrol engine with 230 PS of power which was derivative for the 230 moniker. It generated 226.85 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. It has a top speed of 250 kmph and it could accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.8 seconds. It had an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 24.62 lakh.
Skoda then followed this with the introduction of the more powerful Octavia vRS 245 and now it is all set to introduce the new gen Octavia RS in India. The new Octavia RS will be introduced in India as a Fully-Built Unit (FBU) in limited quantity. This sedan is expected to be introduced in an ex-showroom price range of Rs 45 to 50 lakh. It is likely to be introduced with 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine producing 264 bhp and 370 Nm of torque with a top speed of 250 kmph and a 0 to 100 kmph accelertion time of 6.4 seconds. This setup can make this the most powerful and quickest version of Octavia RS in India till date.
