Tata Motors Registers Over 15 Percent Growth in Car Sales for September 2026

The passenger vehicle division of Indian automaker Tata Motors (also known as Tata Cars) has shared its monthly passenger vehicle sales data for September 2026. Sharing this data the automaker revealed that last month Tata Motors managed to sell a total of over seventy thousand units of passenger vehicles.

Last month Tata Motors managed to sell a total of 70,210 units of passenger vehicles (domestic plus exports). This sales figure indicates an increase in year-on-year total monthly passenger vehicle sales by 9,303 units which further translates into 15.27 percent growth in year-on-year total monthly passenger vehicle sales. In September 2025 Tata Motors posted a total passenger vehicle sales of 60,907 units.

In September 2026 Tata Motors managed to sell 68,810 units of passenger vehicles in the Indian domestic market. This sales figure indicates an increase in year-on-year monthly domestic passenger vehicles sales by 9,143 units which further translates into 15.32 percent growth in year-on-year monthly domestic passenger vehicle sales. In September 2025 Tata Motors posted a domestic passenger vehicle sales of 59,667 units.

Last month Tata Motors managed to sell a total of 15,384 units of electric passenger vehicles(domestic + exports). This sales figure marks a rise in year-on-year total electric passenger vehicles sales by 6,193 units which further translates into 67.38 percent growth in year-on-year total monthly electric passenger vehicle sales. In September 2025 Tata Motors had posted total electric vehicle sales of 9,191 units.

In September 2026 Tata Motors exported 1,400 units of passenger vehicles from India. This marks a rise in year-on-year monthly passenger vehicle exports by 160 units which further translates into 12.90 percent year-on-year growth in monthly passenger vehicle exports. In September 2025 Tata Motors exported 1,240 units of passenger vehicles from India.

Shailesh Chandra, MD and CEO, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. said, “For Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Q2 FY27 was our highest-ever quarter, with sales of 201,723 units and industry-beating growth of 40% year-on-year. We ended the quarter on a strong note, crossing the 70,000-unit sales milestone in September and look forward to carrying this momentum as we enter the festive period. Our greener powertrain portfolio continued to be a significant growth driver. EVs recorded their highest-ever quarterly sales of over 47,000 units, growing 90% year-on-year, with EV penetration in our portfolio rising sharply to 23%, compared with around 8% for the industry. CNG also delivered its highest-ever quarterly sales and accounted for 28% of our volumes. Together, EV and CNG now contribute 51% of our sales, reflecting the rapid shift in customer preference towards greener mobility."
