Tesla Model Y Long Wheelbase AWD Deliveries Begin in India

The Indian division of Elon Musk led American electric automaker Tesla has announced the commencement of customer deliveries of the Model Y Long Wheelbase AWD in India. This marks the arrival of Tesla’s first three-row electric SUV in the Indian market. The information shared by the automaker outlined that the first batch of Model Y L AWD has been handed over via Tesla's direct-to-consumer retail model. At present, all Tesla vehicles sold in India via the Completely Built Units (CBUs) route, with the company retailing its products through experience centres in New Delhi, Mumbai, Gurugram and Bengaluru.

The Tesla Model Y L AWD is priced at Rs 61.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and it is positioned above the Premium rear-wheel-drive Model Y, which is available at Rs 50.89 lakh (ex-showroom). While the regular version is aimed at buyers looking for a premium five-seat electric SUV, the Model Y L adds an extra row of seating and a larger footprint to cater to bigger families.

The Model Y L AWD measures 4,969 mm in length and has a wheelbase spanning 3,040 mm, making it significantly larger than the standard model. The additional length has allowed Tesla to package a three-row cabin with seating for six, including individual captain seats in the second row. The second-row seats get powered adjustment, heating and ventilation functions, while one-touch folding mechanisms make access to the third row easier. Even the third-row seats feature power recline functionality.

The Tesla Model Y L AWD gets a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing 514bhp and 590Nm of torque. The Model Y L AWD offers a claimed range of up to 681 km on a single charge. The company also says that compatible fast chargers can add as much as 288 km of range in just 15 minutes. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in a claimed time of 5 seconds and has a top speed of 201 kmph.

The Tesla Model Y L AWD sports a 16-inch central touchscreen at the front and 8-inch touchscreen at the rear, panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, connected car features and more.

On the safety front, the electric SUV comes equipped with Tesla's advanced driver assistance features, featuring automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure avoidance and blind-spot monitoring, 9-airbags and more.
