This mishap follows multiple violations that emerged in recent times. A recent video emerged of a Tesla Robotaxi driving into the wrong lane, continuing to drive there for several seconds. In addition to that, the same vehicle was shown braking hard after passing a police vehicle.
As per Bloomberg, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is already investigating Tesla’s rollout. Reports emerged that the NHTSA has initiated contacts with the company regarding the Robotaxis violating traffic laws.
This is how the world has reacted to the incident:
The Elon Musk-owned entity unveiled its Robotaxi and Robovan in October 2024, providing a fully autonomous driverless experience for customers. Tesla quietly launched its autonomous ride-hailing service with a fleet of 10 self-driving Model Y electric SUVs last month. The service, which is currently invite-only, is running within a geofenced area of South Austin.
Earlier this week, the EV maker reported a 14% year-over-year drop in vehicle deliveries. Furthermore, Tesla delivered 3,84,122 vehicles in Q2 2025, a decline from 4,43,956 last year as per several media reports. The slide comes amid DOGE-related protests across the US, and competition from Chinese manufacturers like BYD, keeping Elon Musk under the microscope.
