Uber Partners With Nike For Mumbai’s After Dark Tour, Focusing On Women’s Safety
Uber has announced its collaboration with Nike for the After Dark Tour (ADT), a unique nighttime running event in Mumbai. As the official ride partner, Uber will provide safe and reliable transportation for attendees, with a focus on supporting women. The event is expected to be one of the largest 10K runs in India, designed to promote female participation in fitness.
Addressing Women’s Safety Concerns
A recent survey conducted by Uber revealed that safety concerns significantly affect women’s decision-making regarding nighttime outings. According to the survey, 85% of women have canceled or skipped plans after dark due to concerns over transportation and safety. The collaboration with Nike is rooted in these concerns, offering women a safer option for traveling to and from the event.
Shiva Shailendran, Director, Consumer & Growth, Uber India and South Asia, said, “We’re proud to partner with Nike to power the After Dark Tour. Women shouldn’t have to plan their lives around safety concerns — they should feel empowered to step out whenever they choose. As the official ride partner, Uber is helping make the night feel accessible again - by supporting safe, reliable mobility that meets women where they are.”
Survey Insights on Safety and Mobility
The survey found that 79% of women feel safer using ride-hailing services like Uber compared to other transport options at night. Among Uber users, 94% of women agreed that ride-hailing makes it easier to make spontaneous plans after dark. Key safety features such as live GPS tracking (70.8%), emergency button access, and verified driver profiles contribute to this sense of security.
The Broader Impact of Safe Mobility
Beyond the After Dark Tour, Uber's focus on safe transportation is aligned with its broader goal of empowering women through improved mobility. An Oxford Economics study, commissioned by Uber, highlighted that access to safe and reliable transport has helped 4 in 10 working women join the workforce. Additionally, 75% of women cited safety as a primary factor in their decision to use ride-hailing services. The study suggests that increasing mobility options for women could contribute to a 6% rise in the female workforce in India’s top five cities by 2028.
Tarundeep Singh, GM Nike India, said, “The After Dark Tour Mumbai is a race designed for female runners — it’s about connection, celebration and confidence. The partnership with Uber is aiming to help women runners feel confident getting to and from the race. Together, we’re working to create a race experience that brings women to the forefront and fosters a sense of belonging and connection.”
