Hero Mavrick 440-Based Scrambler
The sub-500cc scrambler segment is heating up, with a host of motorcycle manufacturers having entered the space in the past couple of years. Hero MotoCorp is the latest manufacturer to be planning to enter the space with a 440cc scrambler based on its flagship Mavrick 440 roadster. A design patent filed by the homegrown two-wheeler maker has been leaked, revealing what to expect from the bike.

Hero Mavrick 440-Based Scrambler: Design, Hardware

The Hero 440cc scrambler's design patent reveals a host of changes as compared to the Mavrick 440. While the tank design seems similar, the body panels have been redesigned to give it a unique look. The scrambler motorcycle gets a short flyscreen, a raised handlebar, a dual-seat setup, fork gaiters, a sump guard, a new engine guard, new alloy wheels and a redesigned grab rail at the back. The LED headlamp and turn indicators have been carried over from the Mavrick, while the frame is also likely to be unchanged.
The Mavrick 440-based motorcycle will get the same conventional telescopic forks as the donor bike, as well as the dual shock absorbers. The Hero scrambler will likely be shod with dual-purpose rubber, while the single disc brakes at the front and back will be carried over from the Mavrick too.

Hero Mavrick 440-Based Scrambler: Engine, Specs

Hero MotoCorp is expected to make use of the same 440 cc single-cylinder, air- and oil-cooled engine putting out 26.6 bhp of maximum power and 36 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed transmission. It is yet to be seen if the scrambler motorcycle will get a slightly different tune with higher torque lower in the rev range for a better off-roading capability.
The scrambler will be positioned above the Mavrick 440 in Hero MotoCorp's line-up, with the latter currently being priced from Rs 1.99 lakh to Rs 2.24 lakh (ex-showroom). It will directly rival the Triumph Scrambler 400 X and the upcoming Royal Enfield Scram 440, set to be launched next month.
