Royal Enfield has commenced the deliveries of the new Bear 650 motorcycle in the Indian market. The Interceptor 650-based scrambler-style motorcycle is priced from Rs 3.39 lakh, going up to Rs 3.59 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom).
The Bear 650 draws power from the same 648cc parallel-twin air-cooled engine as other Royal Enfield 650 cc bikes, however, in a slightly varied tune. On the Bear 650, this engine makes 47 bhp at 7,250 rpm and has a peak torque rating of 56.5 Nm at 5,150 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission. The scrambler motorcycle is equipped with a Showa suspension system including a 43 mm upside down fork at the front, coupled to dual shock absorbers at the back.
Braking is taken care of by a 320 mm front disc and a 270 mm rear disc with a dual-channel ABS which is switchable at the rear. The Bear 650 is equipped with a 4-inch round TFT display, similar to the Himalayan 450 , offering map navigation and media controls using smartphone connectivity. The Bear 650 is the first in Royal Enfield's 650cc line-up to offer full LED lighting, including headlight, tail lamp, brake lights and turn signals.
Royal Enfield is offering the Bear 650 in five colour options, namely Boardwalk White, Wild Honey, Petrol Green, Golden Shadow as well as Two Four Nine. It will soon be joined by the BSA B65 Scrambler in the segment, expected to be launched in India next year.
