Bugatti has produced the first two Mistral hypercars for customers in the United States after 3 years of its world's premier. The Mistral is the last Bugatti model that will be powered by a W16 engine which was first introduced in the Veyron. Bugatti has already announced that they will be manufacturing only 99 units of the Mistral, with each priced at approximately $5 million (approx. Rs 43.3 crore).

Design Inspired by Classic Bugatti Models

The Mistral's design is influenced by past gen Bugatti vehicles, such as the 1934 Type 57 Roadster Grand Raid Usine and the Type 57S Roadster. The vehicle features V-shaped elements at the base of the windshield and its rear design takes inspiration from the brand’s past aircraft-related projects. The model also shares similarities with the Chiron.

Customization and Specifications

The first two Mistral customers have chosen different designs for their vehicles. One model features a Black Carbon body with Bugatti Light Blue Sport accents, including interior stitching. The second Mistral has a White Glacier exterior with accents in Blue Carbon, Atlantic Blue and Italian Red. Both vehicles include Rembrandt Bugatti’s “dancing elephant” sculpture embedded in the gearshift knob.
The Mistral is equipped with a quad-turbocharged 8.0L W16 engine, that puts out 1,556 bhp. It is based on the engine tune from the Chiron Super Sport 300+ and has a recorded top speed of 453.91 km/h, making it the fastest roadster to date.

The Transition to the Tourbillon

With the Mistral, Bugatti concludes its W16 era. The company is now focusing on its next model, the Tourbillon, which features a new 8.3-liter naturally aspirated V16 engine developed by Cosworth. This new powertrain generates 1,750 bhp and 1986 Nm of torque, with a redline of 9,000 rpm. Bugatti plans to manufacture 250 units of the Tourbillon, with deliveries expected to begin in 2026.

Legacy of Bugatti's W16 Engine

The W16 engine was first introduced in the Bugatti Veyron and later improved in the Chiron. Initially producing 987 horsepower, its output increased over time with various upgrades. While Bugatti is transitioning to a new engine, the V16 is expected to continue the brand’s high-performance engineering focus in future models.
