South Korean automaker, Hyundai Motor is set to hike prices of its vehicles including Creta, Exter, and Verna, among others, by three percent from April 2025 onwards. The company has cited the rising raw material and operational costs as reasons for the price hike. Additionally, this is the second price increase since the company's IPO in October with the first increase raising prices by up to Rs 25,000 which came in December.
"At Hyundai Motor India Limited, we strive to absorb rising costs to the extent possible, ensuring minimal impact on our customers. However, with the sustained increase in operational expenses, it has now become imperative to pass on a part of this cost escalation through a minor price adjustment. The price increase will be effective in April 2025. We remain committed to making consistent internal efforts to minimise any future impact on our valued customers," said Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer, Hyundai Motor India.
Hyundai's vehicle dispatches declined by three percent year-on-year, with total deliveries reaching 58,727 units in February 2025, witnessing a decline from 60,501 units in February 2024. Furthermore, domestic sales dipped by five percent with 47,727 units dispatched, witnessing a decline from 50,201 units in the previous year. Moreover, export sales increased to 11,000 units, up from 10,300 units a year ago.
Hyundai’s decision comes on the back of other automakers including Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors announcing price hikes. Maruti Suzuki has announced a price hike of four percent whereas Tata Motors has announced a price hike, but the percentage of the hike continues to be a mystery. Hyundai Motor’s sister brand Kia has also announced a price hike of three percent.
