Ineos Automotive Recalls Over 7,000 Grenadier SUVs Due To Door Latch Defect
Ineos Automotive Americas, LLC has announced a voluntary recall affecting 7,022 units of its 2024 Grenadier SUV that were produced between July 6, 2023, and April 19, 2024, due to a potential defect in the door latch mechanism. The issue stems from an insufficient application of grease during assembly, which may cause the exterior door buttons to remain in a depressed position. As a result, the doors may fail to latch properly, increasing the risk of them opening while the vehicle is in motion.
According to the report filled by Ineos Automotive to NHTSA said, On affected vehicles the door button mechanism may have been assembled without a sufficient application of grease. This may allow the exterior door buttons to remain in the depressed position and prevent the door from fully latching. If the door does not latch it may open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to passengers inside the vehicle, due to incorrect greasing during manufacturing of the door latch mechanism.
If the door button remains in the depressed position it will be observable by the user. In addition, the door closing sound will be different to normal operation where the metal door latch engages with the striker and the user will observe that the door is not fully closed. A visual warning will appear on the vehicle's head unit if a door is not fully closed. If the vehicle begins to move with the door still not fully closed, the message will turn red and display the word warning followed by audible alerts.
To deal with the issue, Ineos will replace the faulty door button assemblies with updated components that feature improved guidance and a revised grease application process. These repairs will be carried out at no cost to vehicle owners.
