Jaguar Land Rover North America has issued a recall for 5,329 units of the 2019-2020 Jaguar XE due to a defect in the rearview camera system. The issue, caused by wiring damage in the trunk, can lead to intermittent or complete failure of the camera display, increasing the risk of accidents.

Jaguar Land Rover North America has announced a voluntary safety recall for certain 2019-2020 model year Jaguar XE vehicles due to a defect that could cause the rearview camera display to malfunction. The recall affects 5,329 vehicles manufactured at the Castle Bromwich Vehicle Assembly Plant between June 18, 2018, and September 10, 2020.
According to the report submitted by Jaguar Land Rover North America to NHTSA, A concern has been identified on certain 2019MY and 2020MY Jaguar XE vehicles, where the rear camera image display may become intermittent or permanently fail as a result of wiring damage in the trunk. Lack of, or intermittent, display of the rear camera image may result in the driver being unaware of objects or pedestrians behind the vehicle increasing the risk of a crash.

Discovery of the Defect

Jaguar Land Rover identified the problem while reviewing engineering tests related to a prior recall (H445) conducted for similar concerns. During testing in 2024, engineers found that the fix implemented in the earlier recall was not durable enough to ensure long term reliability. Further assessments confirmed that the wiring harness design for the affected 2019-2020 model year vehicles shared similarities with those recalled earlier.
By January 7, 2025, test results indicated that both the previous recall remedy and the 2020 model year parts were not sufficient for the vehicle’s lifetime durability. On January 9, 2025, Jaguar Land Rover’s Recall Determination Committee (RDC) concluded that the issue posed an unreasonable safety risk and recommended a new recall.
