Tata-owned entity Land Rover’s Defender becomes the latest member to be inducted to the Thailand army’s vehicle armada. The Land Rover Defender 110 has been inducted to the Royal Thai Army for towing the LG1 MKIII 105mm Howitzers.
Additionally, the Land Rover Defender will don the Royal Thai Army’s green colour. Moreover, a few modifications have been made to the SUV so that it can adapt to its role in the Royal Thai Army’s armada. The list of modifications includes bull-bars to protect the front bumper and headlights along with protective cage-like structures to avoid damage to the headlights. Furthermore, a winch has been added to the front bumper, making the SUV ready for all situations.
In addition to that, the Thai army has bid adieu to the alloys and swapped them out for steel wheels painted in the same colour as the body. The SUV also boasts a carrier on the roof in case of heavy-duty usage of the Defender. The Land Rover Defender has been equipped with roof lights on the front and the back to provide better visibility to the army personnel.
The bull bars on the front continue to run on the side of the car, merging into the side steps providing additional rigidity. A small tow hook has been added to the rear of the car which will help in towing the LG1 MKIII 105mm Howitzers for the Defender.
Not only is the Land Rover Defender a capable off-road machine but it packs enough power to put other powerful SUVs to shame. While engine modifications remain unknown, the most powerful configuration of the Land Rover Defender boasts a 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8 engine working in tandem with an electric motor producing 626 bhp and 800 Nm of torque. The Defender boasts two more powertrains including a 5.0L supercharged V8 engine and 3.0L inline-six twin-turbocharged diesel engine producing 419.18 bhp and 610 Nm of torque, and 296 bhp and 650 Nm of torque, respectively.
