McMurtry Speirling Breaks Castle Combe Track Record by 4 Seconds
McMurtry Automotive has set a new track record at Castle Combe Circuit with its Speirling PURE fan car. Development driver Max Chilton completed the 1.85-mile circuit in 54.559 seconds, surpassing the previous record by over 4 seconds. The previous record was held by an open-wheel F3 car.

Sharing his views on this feat, Max Chilton said, “Everyone wants bragging rights at their local circuit, and even running at 80 percent power and with a 250 kmph speed limit, we’ve knocked 4 seconds off the outright track record. This demonstrates the potential in the car for our customers to achieve the same at their local or favourite circuits”.
The test session, which took place as part of routine testing, addressed inquiries from locals and fans about the Speirling PURE's performance at Castle Combe. Chilton, who also holds the record at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, achieved this time while running at reduced power and with a speed limit.
The Speirling PURE is designed with a downforce system and an electric powertrain, offering multiple performance modes. This vehicle is available for order globally.
McMurtry will next compete in the Laguna Seca Reverse Corkscrew Hillclimb in the USA on the 10th and 11th of August, with Chilton driving the original Speirling used at Goodwood.
McMurtry Automotive aims to make high-performance track driving more accessible, reintroduce fan car technology, and focus on small, lightweight vehicle design.
Commenting on the occasion, Thomas Yates, Managing Director of McMurtry Automotive said, “This is a fun milestone to achieve. It’s not everyday you get to see a car and driver go so much faster than what’s gone before. Having tested at Castle Combe for years, it was about time we showed what the car can do around our local circuit”.
