Mahindra XUV 7XO Vs Tata Safari Spec Comparison: What’s Different?

The competition in the full-size 7-seater SUV segment has intensified with recent updates to both the Mahindra XUV 700, now renamed as the Mahindra XUV 7XO and the Tata Safari. While Mahindra has introduced a facelift with design and feature updates, Tata has expanded the Safari’s lineup by adding a petrol engine alongside new feature additions. Here is a detailed comparison highlighting what separates the two SUVs.

Design

The Mahindra XUV 7XO features several exterior updates over the earlier XUV 700. Changes include a revised front fascia with updated headlamps, redesigned LED DRLs, a new grille and a reworked front bumper. At the rear, the SUV gets new taillights, a blacked-out connecting element across the tailgate and a redesigned bumper. Black body cladding surrounds the vehicle and the XUV 7XO is now offered with new 19-inch alloy wheels featuring an aero-style design.
The Tata Safari continues with its existing exterior design, as the latest update does not introduce major cosmetic revisions. However, Tata has added a new Red Dark edition to the lineup. The Safari retains its upright stance and signature design elements, including the split headlamp setup and connected LED tail lamps.

Interior

On the inside, the XUV 7XO receives a revised cabin layout inspired by Mahindra’s newer electric models. It is offered with a brown and beige dual-tone interior theme. The dashboard layout remains similar in structure but incorporates updated materials and finishes.
The Tata Safari is available with multiple interior themes depending on the variant. These include an all-black interior in the Dark and Stealth editions, along with lighter colour options such as white and tan in select variants. The newly introduced Red Dark edition features a red-and-black cabin theme. The overall dashboard layout remains unchanged.

Features

The Mahindra XUV 7XO is equipped with a triple 12.3-inch screen setup covering the instrument cluster, infotainment system, and co-driver display. Other features include a 540-degree camera system, ventilated seats for both front and rear passengers, electrically adjustable front seats, a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
The Tata Safari offers features such as a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated seats for both front and rear rows, powered front seats and a full ADAS suite. With the latest update, Tata has added features such as a larger 14.5-inch touchscreen, a digital IRVM and front and rear camera washers on select variants.

Engine Options

The Mahindra XUV 7XO continues with the same powertrain options as the earlier XUV 700. It is offered with a 2.0L turbo-petrol engine that puts out 197.13bhp and 380Nm of torque and a 2.2L diesel engine that produces 181.03bhp and 450Nm of torque. An all-wheel-drive option is available with the diesel engine. Transmission options include MT and AT.
The Tata Safari now offers a petrol engine option alongside the existing diesel. The new 1.5 turbo-petrol engine produces 167.6bhp and 280Nm of torque. The diesel engine continues with an output of 168bhp and 350Nm of torque. Transmission options include manual and automatic gearboxes.
