2026 Honda Monkey 125 Revealed Globally With New Colour Options
Honda has unveiled the Monkey 125 for the 2026 model year. The update focuses on visual changes, with new colour options added to the lineup, while the motorcycle carries forward the same engine, chassis and features introduced in earlier updates. The 2026 version continues to meet Euro 5+ emission norms.
Background and Evolution
The Honda Monkey name dates back to 1961, when it was first developed as a small 49cc motorcycle for use at the Tama Tech amusement park in Tokyo. Due to strong interest, a road-legal version followed in the early 1960s and was exported to overseas markets.
Over the years, the Monkey evolved with larger wheels, revised styling and practical updates. By the late 1970s, it adopted a teardrop-shaped fuel tank and became popular as a compact transport option for recreational vehicle users. In 2018, Honda reintroduced the Monkey as a modern 125cc motorcycle inspired by the original design. Subsequent updates added a five-speed gearbox and emission-related revisions.
Engine and Performance
The Monkey 125 uses a 124cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 9.2bhp at 6,750rpm and 10.7Nm of torque at 5,500rpm paired with a five-speed gearbox.
For Euro 5+ compliance, the engine uses revised ECU settings, an updated catalytic converter and an additional OBD2-2 sensor. The stated top speed is 91km/h.
Chassis, Suspension and Brakes
The motorcycle is built around a steel backbone frame. Suspension duties are handled by upside-down front forks with 100mm travel and twin rear shock absorbers offering 102mm of travel. The seat height is set at 776mm, while kerb weight stands at 105kg.
Braking is handled by a 220mm front disc and a 190mm rear disc. ABS is standard and works in conjunction with an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) to control rear wheel lift during heavy braking. The Monkey rides on 12-inch wheels with block-pattern tyres.
Features and Equipment
The Monkey 125 comes equipped with full LED lighting and a circular LCD instrument cluster. The display shows speed, odometer, twin trip meters and a fuel level indicator. The fuel tank has a capacity of 5.6 litres.
Other features include a key with an answer-back function to help locate the motorcycle in parking areas. Honda also offers optional accessories such as a rear carrier, side bag support, USB charging socket, heated grips, immobiliser alarm, and a gear indicator display.
Colours for 2026
For the 2026 model year, the Honda Monkey 125 will be available in the following new paint options:
- Mat Gun Powder Black Metallic
- Knight Silver Metallic with Millennium Red
- Pearl Himalayas White with Banana Yellow
