2026 Mahindra Thar Facelift Teased Ahead Of September 22 Launch: What We Know So Far
Mahindra is gearing up to update one of its most recognisable SUVs in India. The company has started teasing the Thar 3-door facelift on social media ahead of its launch on 22 September. The first teaser focuses on the SUV's front grille and off-road character, with Mahindra describing it as “An icon, now more iconic.”
Key Highlights:
- Mahindra Thar 3-door facelift to launch in India on 22 September
- First teaser shows a revised, mud-covered front grille
- Updates could include new LED headlights, bumper and alloy wheels
- Engine options are expected to remain unchanged
Mahindra Thar Facelift: Expected Design Changes
Mahindra has kept the first teaser tightly cropped, so the complete front-end design is still under wraps. The headlights, bumper and other exterior details are expected to be revealed through subsequent teasers or at the official unveiling.
Previous sightings of test vehicles suggest that the upcoming update could bring more significant changes than the feature additions made to the Thar in 2025.
The front-end is expected to receive the biggest makeover. Spy shots have pointed towards a redesigned grille and circular projector LED headlights with C-shaped LED DRLs, similar to the setup seen on the Thar Roxx. A revised front bumper and updated fog lamps could also be introduced.
The SUV is also expected to get a new wheel design, while its familiar three-door silhouette, tailgate-mounted spare wheel and split rear opening are likely to remain.
Mahindra Thar Facelift: Interior and Expected Features
The facelift could also bring several new features to the Thar's cabin. These may include a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control and an auto-dimming inside rear-view mirror.
Other possible additions include a 360-degree camera and ventilated front seats. However, Mahindra has not confirmed these features yet. There has also been speculation about Level-2 ADAS, but this remains unconfirmed.
The extent of the cabin upgrades will determine how closely the updated Thar 3-door aligns with the larger Thar Roxx in terms of features and convenience.
Mahindra Thar Facelift: Expected Engine Options
The updated Thar is expected to retain its existing engine lineup. This includes a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engines.
The smaller diesel is expected to continue with a manual gearbox and rear-wheel-drive configuration. The larger petrol and diesel engines are likely to remain available with manual and automatic transmission options, along with four-wheel drive.
Mahindra Thar Facelift: Expected Price
The current Mahindra Thar 3-door is priced between Rs 10.32 lakh and Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom). The facelift is expected to receive a minor price increase over the existing model. With the launch just days away, more details about the updated Thar are likely to emerge soon.
