Renault appears to be preparing a significant update for the Kwid in international markets. The entry-level hatchback has been spotted undisguised ahead of its expected debut in Brazil in the coming weeks, revealing several styling and interior changes. The updated model takes design cues from the Kwid E-Tech electric hatchback introduced last year.
Key Highlights:
- Updated Renault Kwid spotted undisguised ahead of its expected Brazil debut
- Gets a revised grille, new bumpers and updated wheel designs
- Cabin receives a new instrument display and a larger free-standing touchscreen
- Expected to continue with the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine
Renault Kwid Facelift: Exterior and Design
The biggest changes are visible at the front. The updated Kwid gets a new rectangular enclosed grille, similar to the design seen on the Kwid E-Tech. The bumper has also been redesigned and now features a chunky black plastic element below the grille, along with a faux splitter-style lower section finished with silver accents.
The lighting setup appears to remain unchanged. The turn indicators and position lamps continue to sit on either side of the grille, while the main rectangular headlamps remain housed in recessed sections of the bumper.
The side profile remains largely unchanged. The Kwid continues with its existing flap-style door handles and body cladding. The main update here is the introduction of new wheel designs.
At the rear, changes are limited to the tail lamps, which now feature clear-lens elements. The overall rear design otherwise appears to carry forward the styling of the current model.
Renault Kwid Facelift: Interior
The cabin is where the facelift appears to bring more noticeable changes. The current LED instrument display seems to have been replaced by a TFT-style unit, flanked by LED readouts for information such as fuel level and temperature.
A free-standing touchscreen infotainment system has also been added to the top of the centre console. The air-conditioning vents below it feature a new Y-shaped design. Unlike the Kwid E-Tech, however, the touchscreen appears to be integrated into the instrument binnacle surround.
The ICE-powered Kwid also gets a slightly different dashboard layout, with its air-conditioning vents positioned on a lower centre section. The rotary-style AC controls and physical buttons on the centre console are expected to continue from the outgoing model.
No Major Mechanical Changes Expected
Despite the styling and cabin updates, the new Kwid is not expected to receive major mechanical changes. In several developing markets, the hatchback is offered with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing around 70bhp.
The updated Renault Kwid is expected to make its international debut in Brazil shortly. More details about its features, specifications and pricing are likely to emerge closer to the launch.
