2027 KTM 690 Rally Unveiled with 79PS Engine, Bigger Fuel Tank and More
Austrian automaker KTM has revealed the 2027 model year 690 Rally motorcycle. The 2027 KTM 690 Rally shares its underpinnings with the 690 Enduro R, but the 690 Rally gets a rally-style tower, increased fuel capacity and off-road-focused equipment. It is aimed at riders looking for more fuel range without moving to a larger, multi-cylinder adventure motorcycle. The 690 Rally is also being positioned as a modern successor to the KTM 640 Adventure.
2027 KTM 690 Rally: Design
In terms of design the 2027 KTM 690 Rally gets a dedicated rally tower at the front. The motorcycle incorporates an integrated windscreen and houses the motorcycle's instrument cluster. The design is different from the 690 Enduro R and gives the motorcycle a more rally raid-inspired appearance. The motorcycle also gets an LED headlight design derived from KTM's rally motorcycles. A skid plate, wide footpegs and handguards are fitted as standard. The styling seems to have taken inspiration from their experience at Dakar.
The chassis continues to use a chromium-molybdenum steel trellis frame. The 690 Rally has a wheelbase of 1,506mm, while ground clearance is rated at 265mm. At 935mm, the seat height is also considerably tall. The motorcycle rides on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wire-spoke wheels with tubed tyres.
2027 KTM 690 Rally: Fuel Tank
Fuel capacity is one of the biggest differences between the 690 Rally and 690 Enduro R. The KTM 690 Rally gets two additional 3.5-litre fuel tanks mounted at the front. These work alongside the existing rear-mounted tank, taking total capacity to around 20 litres. KTM has also provided a system that allows the rider to select which tank supplies fuel to the engine.
2027 KTM 690 Rally: Engine
The 690 Rally is powered by KTM's 692.7cc LC4 single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, which produces 79PS and 73Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The engine uses ride-by-wire and Keihin engine management, while the drivetrain gets a slipper clutch. A two-way quickshifter is available for clutchless upshifts and downshifts.
KTM 690 Rally: Suspension & Braking
The suspension setup uses WP XPLOR components at both ends. At the front is a 48mm USD fork with 265mm of travel, with compression and rebound adjustment. The rear gets a linkage-mounted WP XPLOR shock with 250mm of travel and adjustment for high- and low-speed compression, rebound and preload. The braking duties are carried out by the 300mm disc brake at the front with a twin-piston Brembo floating calliper and the 240mm disc at the rear with a single-piston Brembo floating calliper. The motorcycle uses a 21/18-inch wheel combination.
2027 KTM 690 Rally: Features & Riding Aids
The 690 Rally uses a 4.2-inch TFT instrument cluster, along with the electronics package shared with the 690 Enduro R. The motorcycle also gets a 12V charging socket and a USB Type-C port. KTMconnect can provide turn-by-turn navigation, music and call functionality through the TFT display.
Cornering ABS and cornering traction control are managed using information from a six-axis IMU. An Off-road ABS setting allows the rider to disable rear-wheel ABS intervention, while the standard ride modes include Street and Off-road. An optional Rally mode provides additional electronic adjustment. It allows the rider to alter throttle response and traction-control settings, while also adding functions such as Motor Slip Regulation and Dynamic Slip Adjust.
