BMW F 450 R: Expected Design
The BMW F 450 R will follow the roadster formula with a muscular fuel tank, compact rear section and sharp tail. The teasers show an upside-down front fork, alloy wheels and road-biased tyres. Disc brakes are visible at both ends, while the exhaust is positioned below the motorcycle.
The riding position is also expected to be more road-focused than the F 450 GS, with the handlebar, seat and footpegs arranged for everyday road riding.
BMW F 450 R: Expected Engine
The F 450 R is expected to use the same 420cc parallel-twin engine as the F 450 GS. The engine in the adventure motorcycle produces around 48bhp and 43Nm and comes with a six-speed gearbox. BMW's F 450 GS also gets the company's Easy Ride Clutch, which reduces the need for conventional clutch operation. It is not yet confirmed whether the F 450 R will receive the same system.
BMW F 450 R: Expected Chassis and Suspension
While the F 450 R is expected to share its basic platform with the F 450 GS, BMW is likely to make changes to suit its roadster character. The motorcycle could get shorter suspension travel and a different suspension tune compared with the adventure bike. The F 450 GS uses a USD front fork and monoshock setup, with a 178kg kerb weight in India.
BMW F 450 R: Expected Features and Technology
BMW is expected to offer several electronic features on the F 450 R. These could include ride-by-wire, multiple riding modes, traction control and ABS. A TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation support is also expected. BMW has not yet revealed the complete equipment list, dimensions or pricing of the roadster.
The F 450 R will join the F 450 GS as part of BMW Motorrad's new 450cc motorcycle family in India. The F 450 GS currently starts at Rs 4.95 lakh after a recent price hike, although the F 450 R is expected to be positioned separately as a road-focused motorcycle. The new roadster also arrives after BMW discontinued the G 310 R and G 310 GS in India. The G 310 RR continues to be part of BMW Motorrad's smaller-capacity motorcycle range.
