BMW Z4 Final Edition Unveiled, Iconic Roadster’s Production Ends in March 2026

German automaker BMW has confirmed that it is bidding adieu to its Z4 Roadster next year. Sharing this update the company has revealed the Z4 Final Edition; a limited-run send-off model of the open-top two-seater Roadster before its production comes to an end in March 2026. Bookings for this edition will open for a brief window starting late January 2026, giving enthusiasts one last chance to get the roadster in a factory-curated specification.
For its final lap, the Z4 gets an exclusive Frozen Matt Black finish. This colour is limited to the Final Edition and comes paired with BMW’s M High-gloss Shadowline trim as standard. Customers can still pick any other Z4 colour at no extra cost, but the Frozen finish is the visual cue that marks this edition out.
M Sport brakes in High-gloss Red are also part of the package, and offered across all variants.
Inside, the Final Edition introduces red contrast stitching that runs across the dashboard, centre console, door pads and the M Sport seats upholstered in Vernasca Leather and Alcantara. The M Alcantara steering wheel gets the same stitching pattern, and the door sills carry special engraved plates to mark the edition.
BMW will offer the Final Edition across the entire Z4 lineup:
  • Z4 sDrive20i producing 194.44 bhp
  • Z4 sDrive30i producing 190 kW 254.79 bhp
  • Z4 M40i producing 250 kW 335.25 bhp
The Z4 took over from the Z3 in 2002 and became BMW’s modern interpretation of the classic two-seat roadster. Built at the Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, the first generation (E85) was known for its long bonnet, rear-biased seating position and 50:50 weight balance. The Z4 M Roadster topped the range with 252 kW 337.93 bhp and a 0 to 100 kmph time of 5.0 seconds.
The second generation (E89) arrived in 2008 with a retractable hardtop and more cabin space, while also bringing iDrive to the roadster segment.
The current third generation debuted in 2018 at Pebble Beach with a fabric soft-top, a driver-focused cabin and the straight-six M40i at the top. Since 2024, BMW has also offered this engine with a manual gearbox in the Pure Impulse Edition.
With this Final Edition, the Z4 ends its run after more than two decades. The updates are cosmetic, the window is short and the intent is clear, this is BMW’s last factory-specified take on the Z4 before the roadster exits production.
