BorgWarner To Extend EGR Contracts And Supply eMotors To North American OEM
BorgWarner has extended four Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) component contracts and signed a new agreement to supply eMotors for hybrid vehicles to a leading North American automotive manufacturer.
BorgWarner To Extend EGR Contracts And Supply eMotors To North American OEM
BorgWarner has finalized extensions of four volume contracts to supply Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) components to a major North American original equipment manufacturer (OEM). These components are intended for use in passenger and light commercial vehicles, including hybrid models. Production will continue until the end of 2029.
The EGR systems include valves, coolers, and modules. They are used to lower nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and improve fuel economy by recirculating a portion of exhaust gases back into the engine intake. BorgWarner provides an integrated system where all EGR parts are developed to function together.
The company’s technology for EGR systems includes hybrid and corrugated tube coolers, monoblock architectures for compact designs and floating core systems for high-temperature environments. The components are built to withstand thermal stress and deliver consistent performance in varied operating conditions.
Dr. Volker Weng, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager, Turbos and Thermal Technologies, said, “These contract extensions are a testament to BorgWarner’s ongoing commitment and success in supplying our long-standing customers with high quality and reliable EGR systems for both combustion and hybrid engines. Combining our established technologies with our global manufacturing experience and footprint, along with our strong customer relationships, we continue to provide solutions that reduce emissions and help meet environmental standards.”
New eMotor Supply Agreement for Hybrid Trucks and SUVs
BorgWarner has also signed a new contract to supply its SW130 eMotor to the same North American automaker. The motor will be used in hybrid full-sized trucks and SUVs, with production scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2028.
The SW130 eMotor operates at 400V and uses S-wind technology, which features a continuous rectangular wire design. This configuration supports efficient power output and allows for compact packaging. The technology also reduces welding points and supports scalable production.
The eMotor is designed for high-voltage hybrid systems and includes a stator with a 130mm diameter and a 65mm stack length. It is built to support performance requirements while managing noise and vibrations in hybrid applications.
Dr. Stefan Demmerle, President and General Manager of BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems, said, “BorgWarner has been closely collaborating with this OEM, providing continuous, valuable feedback to develop an S-wind eMotor solution that meets specific application requirements. This business agreement is a direct reflection of our engineering team’s technical expertise, from writing specifications for design with packaging constraints to manufacturing to implementation. We are looking forward to deepening our relationship with this highly reputable OEM.”
