BYD Yangwang U9 EV Jumps Over Pothole & Spikes, Video Goes Viral

Chinese automaker BYD has been making waves across the globe with its electric cars. The company overtook Tesla in sales back in 2023 to become the biggest electric car brand in the world. It's Yangwang U9 is an electric supercar with other worldly capabilities. Nurburgring, often regarded as one of the trickiest and most difficult race tracks around the world, has witnessed this first hand, where the BYD Yangwang U9 clocked a time of 7 minutes and 17 seconds. For reference the Tesla Model S Plaid with Track Pack completed the same in 7:25.2.

If you think speed, power and handling are the only virtue of this BYD Yangwang U9 then you are mistaken. The Yangwang U9 has a cool party trick up its sleeve; i.e. it comes equipped with air suspension which has been tweaked by the automaker to help this car dance and even jump!

Yes the BYD Yangwang U9 can jump, when it initially went into production last year with this feature we had initial impressions that this was a party trick like the Tesla Model X dancing with its Falcon doors. But now BYD has left the social media in splits with a new video showcasing the utility of the Yangwang U9’s jumping feature.

The video shared by BYD showcases a Yangwang U9 electric supercar approaching a pothole 2.5M long and filled with water. As the video progresses we can see the car taking off as it approaches the pothole and lands after it at speeds of about 120 kmph. This leap taken by the Yangwang U9 dropped our jaws as we have never witnessed anything like it in automotive history. Regardless of what anyone says, EVs are truly rewriting the global automotive landscape.

If you thought this was it then you are mistaken, as the video progresses we see the car approaching a piece of tarmac laden with spikes 3.5cm high. The car again leaps and crosses these spikes without breaking a sweat, making a perfect landing then continuing on its course as usual.

With new innovations and technologies being incorporated into new electric vehicles we feel that the sky's the limit as to what automakers can achieve with these new age vehicles.
