Ferrari 296 GT Modificata Unveiled: A Track-Only Supercar Inspired by the 296 GT3 Evo
Ferrari has revealed the 296 GT Modificata, a track-only performance car based on the 296 GT3 Evo race car. Developed without the FIA and IMSA GT3 regulations that apply to the racing version, the new model gets a revised powertrain, aerodynamic package and braking system aimed at improving performance during circuit driving.
Ferrari says the 296 GT Modificata can lap its Fiorano test track in 1 minute 11 seconds, making it three seconds quicker than the 296 GT3 Evo. Production will be limited, with the car available exclusively to members of Ferrari’s Club Competizioni GT programme.
Ferrari 296 GT Modificata: Powertrain & Performance
The 296 GT Modificata uses a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 derived from the engine used in the 296 GT3 Evo. Unlike the road-going 296 GTB, the track-only car does not use a plug-in hybrid system.
Ferrari has revised the engine with new connecting rods and camshafts, along with changes to the air intake, intercoolers, turbochargers and exhaust system. The engine can now rev up to 8,500 rpm, compared with the 8,000 rpm limit of the 296 GT3 Evo. The V6 produces 730hp and 800Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox with revised ratios. The braking system has also been revised for extended use on tracks; featuring new front brake discs and additional cooling hardware to manage temperatures during longer sessions.
Ferrari 296 GT Modificata: Track-Focused Aerodynamics
The Ferrari 296 GT Modificata gets a redesigned exterior focused on aerodynamic performance and cooling. At the front, it features a new splitter, larger air intakes and revised bodywork. The larger openings provide additional airflow for the powertrain, while the engine cover has also been redesigned.
The car retains several components derived from the 296 GT3 Evo, including the driving lights, bumper canards, bonnet latches and front-fender air ducts. The grille features Modificata lettering. The car uses 18-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero tyres. At the rear, the fixed wing gets a new centre pylon, a 5 mm Gurney flap and revised endplates. Ferrari has also redesigned the exhaust outlets, while the large rear diffuser remains broadly unchanged from the GT3 Evo.
Ferrari 296 GT Modificata: Interior
The cabin has been designed around track driving. It gets racing bucket seats, harnesses, a simplified dashboard and a motorsport-derived steering wheel. Unlike the single-seat 296 GT3 Evo, the 296 GT Modificata has two seats. This allows the owner to carry a passenger or driving instructor during circuit sessions. An intercom system is also provided for communication between the two occupants while driving.
