Haryana Free EV Registrations Begin: Check Which Electric Vehicles Get 100 Percent Tax Exemption
Haryana has implemented a revised Motor Vehicle Tax structure that offers a 100% tax waiver for electric vehicles (EVs) up to Rs 30 lakh. This initiative aims to accelerate EV adoption and it came into effect on August 21, 2026.
Haryana Free EV Registrations Begin: Check Which Electric Vehicles Get 100 Percent Tax Exemption
Haryana has started registering electric vehicles under its revised Motor Vehicle Tax structure, with EVs priced up to Rs 30 lakh now eligible for a 100percent tax waiver. The revised system came into effect on August 21, 2026, making the purchase and registration of eligible electric vehicles significantly cheaper in the state.
The incentive is available on new battery electric vehicles purchased and registered in Haryana. It covers electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers, while EVs priced above Rs 30 lakh qualify for a 50 percent exemption from Motor Vehicle Tax.
Haryana EV Registration: Who Gets 100 Percent Tax Waiver?
The biggest change is the complete exemption from Motor Vehicle Tax for battery electric vehicles with an ex-showroom price of up to Rs 30 lakh.
The benefit covers:
- Electric two-wheelers
- Electric three-wheelers
- E-rickshaws and electric autos
- Electric passenger vehicles
For eligible EVs, the Motor Vehicle Tax payable during registration is effectively zero. The vehicle must, however, be purchased and registered in Haryana to qualify for the exemption.
EV Buyers Can Save Lakhs On Registration
The new exemption has already translated into substantial savings for buyers. The actual saving will vary depending on the vehicle and its applicable Motor Vehicle Tax, but buyers of eligible EVs can now avoid what could otherwise be a significant registration expense.
EVs Above Rs 30 Lakh Get 50 percent Exemption
The tax benefit does not end at the Rs 30 lakh mark. Electric vehicles priced above Rs 30 lakh will receive a 50 percent exemption from Motor Vehicle Tax. Buyers of premium electric cars will therefore still get a substantial reduction in their registration costs, although they will have to pay the remaining applicable tax.
EVs Purchased Outside Haryana Not Eligible
There is an important condition attached to the scheme. The vehicle needs to be purchased and registered in Haryana to qualify for the exemption.
This means buyers cannot simply purchase an EV in another state and subsequently register it in Haryana to claim the benefit. Buyers should check the vehicle's purchase and registration eligibility with the dealership before completing the transaction.

What This Means For EV Buyers
With registrations now underway, Haryana's revised EV tax structure provides a direct reduction in the upfront cost of buying an electric vehicle. For buyers, the calculation is straightforward. A new battery electric vehicle priced up to Rs 30 lakh, purchased and registered in Haryana, gets a 100 percent Motor Vehicle Tax exemption. EVs priced above Rs 30 lakh get a 50 percent exemption. The move is also expected to encourage more EV buyers to register their vehicles within Haryana, while supporting the state's broader push towards cleaner mobility and lower vehicular emissions.
