Hero MotoCorp’s New Dual-Purpose Bike Patented in India: Here’s What to Expect
Hero MotoCorp is potentially launching a new dual-purpose motorcycle aimed at the Indian market, as evidenced by a recently filed design patent. Featuring a lightweight and rugged build, this bike is designed for urban commuting and rough terrain.
Hero MotoCorp’s New Dual-Purpose Bike Patented in India: Here’s What to Expect
Hero MotoCorp could be preparing a new dual-purpose motorcycle for the Indian market. A newly filed design patent reveals a lightweight, rugged-looking bike designed for daily commuting while also being capable of handling rough roads. The motorcycle appears to follow a simpler approach than the brand’s existing XPulse range.
Key Highlights:
Hero MotoCorp has filed a new design patent for a dual-purpose motorcycle in India- The bike gets a tall, slim design with spoke wheels and a raised front mudguard
- Its design recalls the discontinued
Hero Impulse - It could sit below the XPulse 200 4V and use a 160cc engine, but details are not confirmed
The patent images show a tall and slim motorcycle with an upright riding position. It features a raised front mudguard and spoke wheels, giving it a clear dual-purpose look.
At the front, the motorcycle gets a compact headlamp housed inside a sculpted fairing. A small cowl above the headlamp is likely to accommodate a digital instrument cluster. The slim fuel tank and minimal bodywork further point towards a focus on keeping the motorcycle light and practical.
The rear section gets a large tubular luggage rack, while the long single-piece seat, saree guard and sizeable rear mudguard suggest that Hero is also considering everyday usability.
Hardware Focused on Mixed Riding
The patent motorcycle appears to use a larger front wheel than the rear, although the exact wheel sizes have not been revealed. Suspension duties are handled by conventional telescopic front forks with rubber gaiters and a rear monoshock.
The bike gets disc brakes at both ends. If Hero positions it as an affordable model, it could use single-channel ABS, although this has not been confirmed.
The motorcycle uses a tubular chassis, with the single-cylinder engine mounted inside the frame. A bash plate is also visible underneath the engine, offering protection when riding over rough surfaces. The exhaust is routed along the right side, similar to the setup seen on the Hero Impulse.
Could it Be a Smaller XPulse?
Hero MotoCorp already has experience with dual-purpose motorcycles through its XPulse range and has also gained experience from motorsport activities. The motorcycle shown in the patent, however, appears considerably simpler than the XPulse 200 4V.
One possibility is that Hero could position it below the XPulse 200 4V as a more affordable entry-level dual-purpose motorcycle. It could potentially borrow engine technology from the Xtreme 160R, although this remains speculation at this stage.
Hero MotoCorp has not yet confirmed the motorcycle’s engine, power output, weight, launch timeline or positioning. More details are expected if the company decides to bring the patented design into production.
