JSW Greentech Launches Ampstar Electric Commercial Vehicle Brand in India for Buses and Trucks

The details shared by the company outlines that the Ampstar brand will offer power configurations for vehicles ranging between 150 kW to 500 kW. Customers will also be able to choose between outright purchase, leasing, Battery as a Service (BaaS) and other ownership and operating models.

JSW Greentech was incorporated in 2024 and is the JSW Group’s commercial electric vehicle company. The company is developing its manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and has an R&D centre in Pune. It says its focus is on in-house engineering, localisation and technologies suited to Indian operating conditions.

With Ampstar, JSW Group is entering the electric commercial vehicle segment with an initial focus on buses and heavy-duty trucks. The company’s planned product range covers multiple commercial applications, while its manufacturing and technology plans are aimed at building an integrated electric commercial vehicle ecosystem in India.

According to the information shared by the company, Ampstar vehicles will be produced at JSW Greentech’s upcoming manufacturing facility at Auric, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. This facility will boast an annual production capacity of 15,000 electric buses and trucks.

The plant will feature a PT-ED (pre-treatment and electro-deposition) process for bus manufacturing, an automated truck-cabin line and an integrated battery ecosystem. JSW Greentech says the facility will include India’s first PT-ED process for bus manufacturing.

The company will offer electric buses in sizes ranging from 7 metres to 18 metres. The range will cater to applications including staff transportation, city operations, intercity travel and school mobility.

For the truck segment, Ampstar will initially introduce a 55-tonne tractor-trailer. JSW Greentech has also announced plans to add electric tippers and fixed-body dump trucks to the portfolio in the coming months.

JSW Greentech says the Ampstar vehicles have been engineered in-house for Indian road and operating conditions. The company has developed the base logic, software and algorithms for the electric drivetrain, allowing it to configure the vehicles according to specific customer requirements. The vehicles will feature a double-cooling battery system and a high-strength monocoque chassis.

Unlike a vehicle-only offering, JSW Greentech says Ampstar has been developed around the complete commercial vehicle ownership and operating cycle. The company will provide charging infrastructure, operating solutions, financing options and after-sales support along with the electric vehicles.
