Kia Carnival Hybrid Confirmed for India

Kia India is preparing to introduce a hybrid powertrain to the Carnival MPV lineup. The Kia Carnival Hybrid is expected to be launched in India in near future. Launching the Sorento SUV in India today, the automaker showcased the Carnival HEV (Hybrid) in the country. The price and launch date are yet to be announced by Kia.

The upcoming Carnival HEV will get a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 180PS and 265Nm of torque working in combination with the electric motor generating 73.4PS and 304Nm of torque. The electric motor which will be offered in the Carnival Hybrid is expected to produce more power and torque than the motor introduced with the Sorento Hybrid. The hybrid system will likely be paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The hybrid version of the Carnival will largely retain the exterior design of the existing Carnival. It gets vertically stacked LED headlamps, V-shaped LED daytime running lights and connected LED tail lamps. One of the changes made specifically for the hybrid version is the use of 18-inch aero alloy wheels.

The Carnival Hybrid will retain the three-row cabin layout. Kia is likely to make changes to the interior packaging to accommodate the battery of the hybrid system. The list of equipment inside the cabin can include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, three-zone climate control, 12-speaker Bose sound system, powered, heated and ventilated front seats and powered sliding rear doors and more.

The safety package of the Carnival Hybrid can include Level-2 ADAS, 8-airbags, 360-degree camera, front and rear disc brakes and more.

The Kia Carnival is currently available in India in a single Limousine Plus variant, priced at Rs 59.65 lakh (ex-showroom). The hybrid version of the Carnival can command a premium over the diesel version. It can be introduced in an ex-showroom price range of Rs 53 lakh to Rs 56 lakh.

The launch date of the Kia Carnival is yet to be confirmed from the automaker but it is expected to be launched in the festive season later this year.
